Online Bible Verses - Psalm 119:7 - I will praise you with an upright heart
“I will praise you with an upright heart as I learn your righteous laws.”
Psalm 119:7
A verse filled with good intent.
My brother said to me some years back, when evaluating a person, uncover their motive. Always look there as you first observe behavior of an unknown quantity. You will soon know what and who you are dealing with.
An example, which took place several years ago. A friend was traveling on business with a superior for the first time, who had made reservations in advance for both. When they got to the hotel, my buddy gave the host his hotel points card, so he could accumulate points based on the stay there. The host informed him that his boss already had the points credited to his own card. Not a crime against humanity perhaps, but it revealed tendencies toward character. Could have been a fluke, but turned out to be an accurate predictor of future behavior. Keep your guard up.
God does not have to guess, as He knows our heart inside and out; and given our innate tendency to oppose Him, He knows full well we will do so at times. There is also, however, a desire to obey and please. Not an ability to come through 100% of the time, but a genuine intent to walk with Him, to go where He pulls but will not force us. This is the condition of an upright heart. I got up today feeling kind of that way, conscious of the fact I have lately been letting my thoughts wander off into territory He would not have them go. So my commitment was to let Him fill me up with thoughts about obeying His statutes and focusing on Him. Worked out pretty well. A good day, one He gave to me. So easy in concept to put Him up front, but not always in practice. It starts with an upright heart, the one He gave me. Whatever victory may await along these lines, I know He should get the credit.
