Give Us a Glimmer of Comfort, Lord
Deist or Jewish Prayer
Blessed are You, O LORD, our God, who brings forth goodness on the earth. Hear me and hold me, O LORD, for I am without comfort. I am without answers and the heaviness in my heart and soul is beyond comprehension.
Help me, O LORD, because You are my Hope. Fill my soul with Yourself. Fill my soul with healing. Fill my soul with recognition and gratitude of anything good that was or can be in this situation. Fill me, God. Fill me.
Thank you, O LORD, my God, that the little ones are not in pain. Thank you that they sit in the deep warmth of Your love, comforted and at peace with a peace that we humans on earth cannot begin to understand. Thank you for loving them with all the love that exists in the universe. Thank you for loving them.
Fill me, God. Fill me. Fill me with your healing power so that I may have less pain. Fill me and flow through me so that the healing spirit will spread to others. Fill me so that I cannot feel. Fill me so that I, too, touch your love. Use me as a conduit for healing others.
Blessed are You, O LORD, our God. Let us see You today. Direct our feet to take us where we should be. Direct us to better ways.
Amen.
Protestant Prayer
God, the Holy Book says “Seek and ye shall find, knock and the door shall be opened, ask and it shall be given,” but it lies. I know that if I ask You to turn back time and prevent an attack on my precious one, it won’t happen. What is going on in the world? What is going on with You?
Sweet Baby Jesus was born in an occupied country and survived a search to kill Him. I love my baby as much as You love your Jesus. Oh God, oh God, oh God….
Help me, God. Help all the families. Help this country. Help the world of humans. We make so many exceptions to “Thou shalt not kill.” Then what? We get this horror. The ripples from these murders touch the world. Help us. Help the world. I ask in Jesus’s name.
Amen.
Roman Catholic Prayer
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Bless me, Father, for I mourn.
I mourn for the mothers and fathers who lost their little children.
I mourn for the brothers, sisters, grandparents, godparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, playmates, schoolmates, and neighbors who will never see these precious children again.
I mourn for the communities and the world who have lost any sense of safety or security when this happens.
What is to become of us?
Mother Mary, Blessed Mother of us all, look down upon us and give us comfort. You are a mother; help the grieving parents. Help the grieving families. Help me, because I grieve.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, please send you love and comfort to us all. Grant us peace in our hearts.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Prayers and Action
Of course, these prayers also cry for action from all of us. If we don't not want the same things to happen over and over, we must make changes.
Thank you, New Zealand, for taking immediate, meaningful action to remove military type weapons from the general populace. The United States needs to follow your lead.
