Prophetic Signs or Merely Coincidence?

Updated on November 24, 2016

Are Seemingly Random Signs, Symbols or Dreams Ultimately Connected to Your Destiny?

For some time now I have been drawn to reading about other people’s “coincidences” where they see either a certain number, symbol, word, picture several times or they may have a series of things that initially appear to be random, but when linked together and depending on their life experiences and current set of circumstances have led them on quite a ‘Grand Adventure’ as my friend Bilbo would say!

I have had many of these myself and some quite bizarre ones through dreams particularly, which is not surprising as that is the area that I am passionate about!

Coincidence No. 1

I had my first ‘coincidence’ for the year on the 1st of January, which in itself I thought was an auspicious sign lol!

Initially I paid little attention to the name ‘Gambit’ that I was reading about in a novel sent to me via the internet from a friend. I had just started the book, and this particular character had not been developed whatsoever, other than I knew he was the President.

Coincidence No. 2

As I was reading this on my computer a message popped up from a group I am connected to on Facebook and I popped in to have a look – it was a video clip of this group of people and their experience at a festival earlier last year. I did note that the person who had posted this was called ‘Gambit’. As this is not a common name I double checked the book I was reading to make sure that it was the same name and simply passed it off as an interesting coincidence.

Coincidence No. 3

Later that day I received a message from an acquaintance that I had connected with because of a dream I had shared with him associated with our beautiful country New Zealand. I hadn’t heard from him for a couple of years as he is a busy author and speaker. He had just rediscovered my initial emails and felt prompted to respond again. Firstly he found it interesting that he had rediscovered these on the 1st of January 2012 and secondly he felt that this year might lead to a further progression on what had been revealed to me through the dreams and the vision that he too has for our nation.

Dream Puzzle Journey

Prior to having these dreams I had no interest or understanding of the matters that arose in them particularly the political aspect that appeared in them and I had very little understanding of the culture and language of our indigenous Maori people current and historical that populated them. The only thing I did have a grid for was the prophetic/spiritual aspect of them. So they have been at the back of mind now since 2008 – where I am prompted every now and then to dip my foot in the water and see if certain people are ‘the ones’ to play a role in helping me solve this Dream Puzzle Journey. I have since had more dreams and started down the track of learning whatever I can about these things and my antennae is now wired to pay attention to anything connected to them. I have also learnt much patience and to actually enjoy the journey as it unfolds before me, even if I am not completely sure where the next step leads.

The Last Piece of the Puzzle!
The Last Piece of the Puzzle!

Pulling the Puzzle of "Coincidence" Together!

After receiving this message from my author friend, I mentioned it to my husband saying that I thought it was a great sign and that finally maybe the dreams would finally see some application. Thinking along those lines, it then brought to mind the name ‘Gambit’ that I had seen twice earlier that day, and being the word smith that he is he proceeded to tell me that it wasn’t just a name but meant:

‘An opening move or any manoeuvre in which one seeks to secure or gain an advantage.’

This may not seem wondrous or like “A Grand Adventure” to you the reader, but it all makes perfect sense to me – within each connection of ‘Gambit’ are symbols that are pertinent to my personal journey and destiny and tie up with these dreams. I have been walking this out for over 3 years now and have recognised that these dreams are ‘Destiny Dreams’, which I find the most exciting of all!

These sorts of dreams always remind me of the early historical account of Joseph - albeit I prefer the ultimate outcome, rather than where he started! Joseph's dreams initially led him to being thrown into a pit and carted off as a slave to Egypt. Finding himself promoted to an overseer in Potiphar's house, to then being thrown in the dungeons after being falsely accused by Potiphar's wife. Then eventually receiving the opportunity to be able to interpret Pharaohs dreams by the counsel of God which caused him to be placed as 2nd only to Pharaoh and finally to make the appropriate practical applications to then help Egypt through a time of great famine and recession - so who knows where your dreams or signs along the way will lead you! Dreams led him from the pit to the palace!

So what about you? Have you had any “coincidences” that have initially appeared random, but as you have followed them through they have ultimately ended up changing aspects or even providing new direction in your life?

Instead of me just spouting my ideas with little or no response. I love watching people bounce or spark off others and then use the creative talents they have been given (and worked hard at) to inspire all those around them!

Bring on your 'coincidental' stories!

Hi jellygator, (I had to laugh at spell check you were almost jelly roll!) I must admit I started to watch The Celestine Prophecy on T.V. here some time back but never finished it as like you I didn't really go along with their particular beliefs. But this has certainly been a journey for me and my 'belief' system has been somewhat stretched and pulled, and that is all part of the adventure and to be honest when I look at some of the historical biblical accounts I can see that there were many far more 'way out' and supernatural experiences, so I have figured that this should really be quite normal for those that believe and to me is just another way that I hear from God. Thanks for your vote, much appreciated!

You may enjoy reading "The Celestine Prophecy" by James Redmond. Although it's a novel based on the idea of synchronicity (an idea that first came from Carl Jung), it has provided some guiding principles that some people follow. I don't know that I completely believe, but I know enough not to close my mind to it, either! Voted up and interesting.

Hi Alocsin, glad you dropped by and that you found it interesting - I am finally getting around to a bit more writing, so sharing some of the things that interest me and hopefully spark interest and discussion on these pages - I hope that more will share their 'coincidences' as I have found for me that these can lead to life changing experiences!

Too me everything is coincidental. It's only people who ascribe prophecy or see patterns in them, just like people arbitrarily define certain animals as cute or ugly. Voting this Up and Interesting though.

It is a wonderful journey Quirinus, and particularly when you meet fellow travellers! It so exciting to receive direction and encouragement in whatever form that takes, and I am in absolute agreement with you with regards to thankfulness, to the Dream/Sign/Revelation/Song Giver. We all reflect an aspect of God's amazingly creative personality and this is most very clearly expressed on Hub Pages!

So glad to realize we're travelling a similar path, Dreamsinger! In my hub on "Our Lord's Prayer: ...", I make mention of the practice of gratitude to God for him sending me dreams, insights, songs and symbols to guide and affirm me.

      Hi Alie,

Dreams are such a great addition to our lives aren't they and for me have certainly led me on some amazing journeys, and sounds as if it has been the same for you.

I haven't heard that term 'being born with a veil over your eyes' before, when I think of being able to understand dreams, I see it as the veil being removed! It is great that all the girls in your family have that ability.

I think that most people can learn to interpret their dreams with just a little time and effort and once people learn their dream language it can have a huge affect in their daily lives.

For me personally, I can tell when my dreams are "real" or symbolic to my situation or just...dreams. My "real" dreams, I am usually in a situation that will happen in the future. When I wake up, I'll write it down, then years later I will happen it. I'll feel deja vu, then look where I wrote it down. It's really interesting sometimes.

Other times, I know my subconscious is trying to tell me something so I look for symbols. Other times, I just, silly, imaginative dreaming.

It's odd, almost every female in my family can "see" through their dreams. We assume that it came from my great-grandmother who was born with a veil over her eyes.

Heart4theword - yes it is interesting I too have had dreams where they continue on from another dream and appear like deja vu. Often connected with a "sealed" dream Job 33:14-17 Sealed dreams are not remembered because God seals them in our subconscious until the preparation process in completed in us. Then the seal is broken and the memories of seeing, hearing and walking through a situation in the past is recalled and remembered. That is why some call this a Deja vu experience. Some time ago you dreamed the experience, interacting with the characters in the dream, it was sealed and forgotten. At the fullness of time, when you are walking into the situation in real time, your memory is triggered to recall the previous dream events and you follow the script that was written in the past. This invokes feelings of "I've been here or done this before". As you say many of our dreams are just working through what has or is happening in our lives, but there can also be messages hidden even within these ones, so I have learnt not to write off a dream just because I have either watched or listened to something that day. I love how many dreams can provide us with all the things you mentioned - particularly when we need answers for things! The tricky thing is interpreting them and then knowing how to apply them to our lives! Happy Dreaming!

Personally, I have had dreams that later in life...I realized, it was like de sha vu? Being a little freaked out, I realized I was in the scene of the dream...moving forward on the same road as the dream, or had just lived the dream...(and understood what just happened had happened in a dream in earlier years). I too have many dreams, they are very real to me. I can sum up my dreams at times of what had taken place in previous days, or the stresses of life, etc... Dreams can be scary, inspiring, weird, tormenting, lies, and filled with Spiritual knowledge of wisdom, creative design, colors, that can change a direction or decision of ones life:) Thank you for the dialogue! It was fun:)
