Proverbs 14:22 - Plan what is good. The best laid plans align with God's.
Do not those who plot evil go astray? But those who plan what is good find love and faithfulness. Proverbs 14:22
Today we check ourselves, we can question our motives. Why are we thinking what we are thinking? From where do our thoughts originate?
Our prayerful request, that they be captive to the Holy Spirit. What is the Holy Spirit? Better put, in accordance with scripture, who is the Holy Spirit? He is the 3rd person in the orthodox triune Godhead. God in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Same guy, manifest in three vehicles. All existing from time eternal.
So happens, in this day and age, if we are connected with Christ, that connection comes via the Holy Spirit. He was with God, and was God, in the beginning. That according to scripture. Whether we buy into it or not is our choice to make. Free will the determining factor, by design. Design which demanded the only type of relationship constituting a genuine one. Two parties need be willing participants.
Once we choose to enter into the promise and invite, He indwells. A new creature is born, God does the work via communication. That communication places a barometer on our thought life, we can see the world through new eyes. Those eyes, opened by He, result in a conflict of sorts. Our thoughts and actions can be driven by one of two sources:
1. His Spirit
2. Our flesh
Going astray entails #2 taking the helm. And so, we have a daily battle to wage. Do it our way or His. Grace covers all in the eternal sense, that is His promise to us despite ourselves. But my former self is always there, trying to focus on me. What and who I am angry at. What I want. What I have an urge to fix on my own with no help from Him. I’m always there trying to do it my way, which includes highlighting the faults of others while ignoring my own.
On the other hand, my plans, if they incorporate His, can be good ones.
I’m at work today, new job. Trying to figure out some overwhelming stuff, working on wireless electronics. Really, at times, seemingly too complicated. Need to take a few minutes to reflect on God’s word, before I errantly try to figure all things out on my own. After all, He invented the mathematics and physical laws governing these radios. They pale in comparison to what He knows. Does it not make sense then, I ask Him for guidance before I just dive in and do it my way? I think I will do just that. And while I’m at it, ask Him to guide me in every other aspect of what I think, do and say. In that way, today promises to be a good one.
Hey, good news. My wife just called, our taxes are done and the refund looks better than I anticipated. We really need that. He knows what I need before I do.
He knows I need Him, to guide me such that I do not go astray. Like a Shepherd and His sheep. Left up to my own, I will wander off into danger. But He is there to reign me back in.
