Rameshwaram Jyotirling that spreads its Divine Energy Light for the welfare of human kind
Jyotirling is the divine light of Shivji that's given by Shivji as a boon when his devotees are in trouble and he comes for help and remove their pains and sorrows. On the request of their devotees he seated on that place as a Jyotirling for the welfare of human kind.
Rameshwaram Jyotirling is one of that kind. The Story of this Jyotirling is linked with Lord Ram, his wife Sita, Rawan the Damon and Lord Shivji.
Rawan kidnapped Sita the wife of Shri Ram. Hanumanji the devotee of Lord Ram found her under the custody of Rawan. He informed Lord Ram. Lord Ram managed to invade in Lanka with the help of Vanaras. Before invading Lord Ram made a shivling of sand on the sea shore and worshipped Lord Shivji. He prayed for his victory over Rawan.
Rawan was also the devotee of Shivji. But Rawan's feeling was not good. So Lord Shivji accepted Lord Ram's request. Lord Shivji helped Lord Ram.
Lord Shivji blessed for his victory. Shri Ramji built a bridge over the sea with the help of vanaras. This bridge is called Ramsetu. Through this way they went to Lanka and invaded over Rawan. Rawan was defeated and Lord Ram came back with his wife Sita. Rawan's brother Vibhishan helped Lord Ram.
When Lord Ram came back on the sea shore some Rishis suggested to make a Shivling as Rawan was Brahmin by cast and he was killed by Lord Ram. Brahmhtya was done by him. When the worship was done, proper time and Muhurat was told. Hanumanji had to bring Shivling from from Kailash where Lord Shivji resided.
Lord Shivji didn't meet him, so he had to wait. The other side Muhurat was passing, Rishes made hurry as the whole efforts would be useless. So Lord Ram had to build a Shivling and did worship. When Hnumanji met Shivji and asked for Shivling and took it and went for his destination.
When Hnumanji returned, he saw that Ramji had made another Shivling and worshipped, he got angry. He said that why I was sent there. You should wait for me. Lord Ramji tried to convince him. But he felt low. Lord Ramji said to Hnumanji, "Put this Shivling that you brought in place of this Shivling." Hanumanji tried to put it out, but he could not put out. Then decision was made this Shivling should be seated first, the Shivling that Hnumanji brought it near the first Shivling. In this way both the Shivlings were seated side by side.
Vibhishan the brother of Rawan and the devotee of Shri Ram, suggested to disconnect the bridge (Ramsetu) for safety. Lord Ramji disconnected the bridge from sea, with his bow and arrow. Now this place is called Dhanush Kodi.
This place is between Lanka and Tamilnadu. This was a small town. Railway station was also there. But in December 22,1964 a cyclone disturbed each and everything. The Train drowned into the sea and all the passengers drowned and died. The thunder storm was so dangerous that the whole town drowned into the sea. Unluckily who remains there he gains a bitter experience. Cries are heard there.
