Sailing On Our River Of Memories

Updated on April 3, 2017

Don't you love taking walks down memory lane? I do and I think everyone who knows Jesus would agree that our memories are such a great part of our testimony in Christ each day that we walk forward with him. I like to think on the words of God in the beautiful Deuteronomy 28 blessings for obedience revealings. To my way of understanding the storehouse of our memories is like a bank where memories have been deposited. And the blessing of his care over our storehouses is promised.

Deuteronomy 28:8 The LORD shall command the blessing upon you in your storehouses, and in all that you set your hand to, and He shall bless you in that you set your hand to.....

I enjoy so many of the lessons from song about memories. They're sung about in many of the songs we’ve learned to love in the world’s culture. Here are a few more that I like. “Thanks For The Memories”, “Unforgettable”, “Memories”, just to name a few. And the wonderful old gospel hymn “Precious Memories”

Yes, memories are truly a large part of who we are and who we have been plays a huge part in who we are today. We have many of them written on our minds and hearts, like a well of good and even golden treasures that we keep drawing lessons and delight from. And so many of our memories are testimonies of different ways we were taught the fear of the Lord. We learned how he was our savior and teacher of higher ways. Common happenings in our everyday life became the substance of heavenly treasure.

Isa 33:6 There will be times of security for you- a storehouse of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge. The fear of the Lord is Zion's treasure.

However, all along our way we discover that shadows come to try to rob us of our peaceable treasure. Shadows of fear and regret, to bring to mind things that were hurtful and harmful. Like fiery darts coming at us, clouding our thought processes with dark memories, sins and mistakes that God has forgiven and forgotten. All of our old memories were not authored by God and some of them are better forgotten. Now I'm here to share with you that we are not alone. We have a counselor, a Faithful Shepherd who works with us to guard the treasures of joy and sweet life we carry. By his wisdom and guidance we've gotten wiser; we've learned that we have a sure help from the heavenlies. As we've walked with Christ we're discovering that through all these things God desires that we become more than conquerors. Through his loving power we become overcomers and rulers of our own heart and emotions. The darkness of fear and doubt has no place in our thoughts because we have girded up the loins of our minds through the interventions of Holy Spirit. The gospel of Christ is the good news. That we can relax in the safety of his presence. We can walk into the pleasure of precious and redemptive memories for the profit of many. We have a bank account of blessing stories to tell that many need to hear. Trust in the Lord with your whole heart and soul and he will be your guide. Father God is the Author and Finisher, that which He begins He will complete. Glory to God, through the Lord Jesus Christ..
