Sathya Sai Baba during his boyhood.

Updated on September 6, 2011

Bala Sai(young Sai)

The birth of Sathya Sai Baba was mysterious to say. Even when he was in the womb of his mother Easwaramba, musical instruments which were hanging in the walls started playing melodious music on their own. The family was naturally disturbed by these mysterious happenings. When the father Pedda Venkappa Raju, consulted some experts about the events, they told him, that a great soul is going to take birth in your house. To give joy to the baby, musical instruments play music to the accompaniment of drum and flute on their own. The boy was really a rare personality. When Saibaba was born in the early morning hours of 23 November, 1926, he was placed in a Palmyra mat as per the custom. To the wonder of the nurse who attended the delivery, the mat started making some movements. When the baby was lifted and the mat removed, they found a huge serpent coiled underneath the baby's mat.

The boy had a big black mole on the left cheek and he seems to be in a blissful mood. Thus he was the pet of the entire village and always visitors(mostly woman from the neighbor hood, under one pretext or another gained entry into the house to caress the child. The baby too exhibited delight in the company of those ladies more than his mother. But his mother never bothered about all this. The baby grew into a boy and he has to undergo schooling for his future. Hence first he was admitted to a local school and later to a school which was some miles away. Hence the young Sai starts earlier from the house with some 'ragi gruel for lunch. He will return only after the sunset. The mother used to wait for his return anxiously. During the period, many boys who could not offer to purchase a writing slate or pencil or rubber approach the young Sai for help.In a moment, Sai will thrust his hand in his bag and bring out new slates and pencils for distribution among the less fortunate. Till the teacher arrives, Saibaba taught the students simple chants on various god forms and ask them to repeat it. After the session, he will take chocolates, peppermints or sweet laddus for distribution among the children. When the boys asked him, how he brings out all from the empty bag, he used to say that some angels give it to him! The students considered him as their leader and no doubt he is the Supreme leader of the entire mankind! I will continue the rest in the next hub. Om Sri Sai Ram. Saisarannaga.
