Mary, mother of Jesus - Luke 1:46-47
“And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for the Mighty One has done great things for me— holy is his name.” Luke 1:46-47
Mary comes to the full realization of what she has been chosen for, then turns around and gives God praise. The neat and kind of hard-to-get-a-grip-on part of the picture: in giving praise to God, it could be said, given the deity concept conveyed in John Ch1 and amongst other places, that she is also praising her unborn child?
Gosh. How do you deal with being God’s mom? What a job. Not to mention the fact, there had to be an explanation for how she got pregnant. Then Joseph had to believe it.
Quite a story. Not stand alone, as it plays out in conjunction with and/or confirmation of much prophecy. Check out Micah 5:2 and Matthew Ch 1 for starters.
Many of us love Christmas, it has been such a great time for me since I was a kid. My mom really went to town, made a big deal out of it. My wife does as well.
This year, as in others, I will try not to lose sight of what it means. God condescending to earth, inhabiting flesh. A physical God with a real name and person we can know. One we can call friend. One who came to help us out of a big fix.
