Spiritual Things Operate Spiritually

Updated on March 16, 2012

"We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak" (2 Cor 4:13)

In the above verse we see that faith has a "spirit" aspect to it. Faith is very real, but at the same token you can't bottle faith. You can't physically put your hand on faith and show it to your friends. While I realize that you can see a persons faith by the way they live or talk my point here is that you can't physically see faith.

When we look at ourselves we know that we are a spiritual creation. When God formed Adam from the dirt of the ground he didn't become a living soul until after the breath of life was breathed into him. We are spiritual beings that have been created to live eternally.

Therefore, we could say that faith is a spiritual tool that has been given to spiritual beings for the purpose of bringing spiritual things into the natural realm. Understanding this let's consider two more scriptures that tie into this Spirit of Faith.

The first scripture is Romans 10:17. In this verse we are told that faith come by hearing the Word of God. This is an interesting scripture to me because there are people who have been in church their whole lives but still struggle in their faith. There are preachers who have been preaching the Word for decades that still struggle in their faith.

Any one of us could go to a University and within four years obtain a Bachelor's Degree and in six years obtain a Master's Degree, and within eight years obtain a doctorate. In about ten years, if you worked hard, you can become a medical doctor and find yourself in a surgical care unit cutting open a person's body with the knowledge and intent of fixing something. Yet after 15, 20, or 30 years we are still struggling with faith.

If faith simply came by hearing the Word of God then most Christians would be faith giants. Therefore, there has got to be more to this verse which brings me to my next scripture.

In John 6:63 Jesus states that the Words He speaks are Spirit and life. Follow the progression here. Words are Spirit and faith comes through the Word. Therefore, faith is a spiritual tool that operates according to spiritual Words in spiritual beings. This tells us why people struggle with faith, they are not operating according to the spirit of faith.

Faith does not come out of our brain, it comes out of our Spirit. We are spirit beings, who have been given a spiritual tool called faith, that operates according to spiritual Words. But if we are operating according to the knowledge of our mind we are not going to tap into the power of this great resource.

In Proverbs 4:23 we are told that we are to guard our hearts (spirit) because out of our hearts (spirits) comes the issues or forces of our life. Our life is determined by what is in our hearts (spirit). This is why we are told four times in the Word of God (three times in the New Testament and once in the Old Testament) that the just shall "live by" faith. Our lives are determined by what is in our spirit and we are instructed to guard our spirits. We have been given spiritual words and a spiritual tool called faith to operate in our spirit being. Therefore, we have a responsibility to pay attention to what's in our spirit man.

As we continue into these last days it will become critical for us to learn how to operate according to the laws of the Spirit. God (Who is Spirit) did not haphazardly create us or the world that we live in. There are spiritual laws in place just as there are natural laws like gravity. When we operate according to these spiritual laws we find the life of Christ and experience the power of God manifesting in our lives. When we live according to the laws of the natural then we find the destruction that operates within it's control.

Take time to find out how God set this world up. How He designed our lives to work. Then apply those laws to your life and start experience the Life of God.
