Thanksgiving 2024 – American Style

By the numbers:

  1. Even in with a portion of our country trying to quash Thanksgiving 2024, still to the majority of the oblivious and non-religious workers of this country it is a day off with pay and to many of this group it is an overtime paid holiday. As tradition will have it, there are families and friends that will gather for some wine and good food; restaurants will run Thanksgiving specials, giving most everyone an opportunity to celebrate…something. Sports bars’ business will be booming as there is something to watch. Couple this with television specials for the stay at homes, all to add to the festivities. The common thread: nary a true heart thankful to the Lord of the harvest; it is just too dark.
  2. To the religious crowd [I did not say Christian], it is also time of family get togethers, lots of food preceded by a traditional prayer/blessing, accompanied and followed by memories, politics and sports chatter. Skillfully avoiding discussing religious topics of any depth but in keeping with the festivities, working overtime to keep it mostly civil. The name Jesus may even be invoked but rarely discussed except for the occasional slip of profanity. Everything is usually orchestrated according to each family or home’s traditional take on how the day should go. It is pleasant on the surface, seldom broaching anyone’s doubts or fears for the future or overly offending anyone. In a word: it is empty.
  3. For the Christian it should be like every other day, as far as personal thankfulness is concerned. We are not to set aside a day to be thankful, it should be our lifestyle every living moment. Hard to do, but that which the Word commands. For the most part, we enjoy all of the above benefits of a holiday, family, food and fellowship with an added responsibility. Our lives are to be a witness to those among our families and friends who know not our Lord as Savior. A strange side-effect of this holiday is that it is a time when those who are hurting are more sensitive to the Truth. A soapbox is not required, but a tender heart and an attentive ear will go a long way in another’s life. A few churches go out of their way to provide meals for the poor, the lonely and the homeless on Thanksgiving which is to be commended. Where is the church for the rest of the year?

Non-church Goers Have Much to Celebrate on Thanksgiving!

What is it that can make the enemies of the cross thankful on America’s special holiday?

  • The Rainbow Crowd – They have made massive strides in imposing their lifestyle into the American fabric. Churches are caving to the pressure by allowing or should I say ordaining these people into their leadership as priests, reverends, pastors and the like. First it was higher education accepting their views as legitimate, then teaching this country’s future teachers it's politics of education: now has become widespread in both primary and secondary classrooms. We now have forced indoctrination with or without the parent’s consent. They can shut down businesses that do not cater to their lifestyle, being well backed by the court system. They can parade their wicked ways openly and it seems that no one is brave enough to oppose them. They have a lot to be thankful for: from the closet to the streets, to the churches, to the schools, to the courts and finally, in the face of anyone who should oppose their agenda. Note: they have always been there but now they have nothing to fear.
  • The Anarchists and Socialists – Once held in check by a predominately Christian-like American attitude, now have made huge inroads into the government: local, state and federal. These people know that the only thing keeping them from running this country, ala fascist, socialistic or communistic, is the real Christian community. We love law and order whereas they require unrest, defined enemies of the state and complete control of the government. Once, a famous Christian preacher and author made a very erroneous and foolish statement; that 100 million born-again Christians did not vote. In truth, there are probably less than a third of that number of born-again believers in this country and I believe I am being generous. We are the minority, we are hated and as a bloc, we are weak. Fear not, we are more than conquerors in Christ. Those of the semi or anti-religious crowds are finding encouragement in that their movement is gaining strength as more and more openly hate the American way and specifically, Christians.
  • Islam – The fastest growing religion in the world. They have taken over a huge chunk of Europe and their sights on America are now being realized even within our own government. The socialist act like they are their friends and will use them to gain the power they seek. They too have succeeded in shutting down businesses, promoting themselves within the scholastic community and bullying their way into our local school systems. For a people that hate the American way of life, they have a lot of victories to celebrate this Thanksgiving.
  • The Atheists and All God Haters – Merry Christmas, nativity scenes, crosses, Easter and all things that remotely tie themselves to Christianity are being erased from the American culture. As evidenced by a recent news article concerning a pastor being allowed to stay within a certain denomination’s leadership role though freely admitting to being an atheist. Unless one has their head buried in the sand, hatred for all things Christian dominates most every facet of life in this country. Their greatest joy will be the day all those stubborn, pesky believers disappear and leave them to live a guilt free life. They too have a lot for which to be thankful this Thanksgiving.

To the True Church: We Are in Good Hands.

All Things Work Together For Our Good.

If the preceding paragraphs have given you some consternation, that is as it should be. We should be very aware of the growing wickedness all around us as it says in 2nd Timothy - “In the last days, men shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.” We should be aware that almost every news source is not telling you the whole truth; never have, never will. Concerning your pastors, internet, radio and television preachers, you must be a Berean and measure everything against the Word, myself included. Our thankfulness does not depend upon our church attendance, our good works or anything else outside of God’s perfect faithfulness to you and me. We have been born-again in this day and age according to the will of God and we have with us every good and perfect gift necessary for living a victorious life this side of heaven. This Thanksgiving we can truly rejoice, for our names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
