The Anthill Parable
A foursome of golfers were on the course one day and as they were playing, one of the golfers balls landed on an ant hill.
There were thousands of ants in the ant hill until the golfer took his first swing. He missed the ball and took out half of the ant colony. Muttering and cussing the duffer took another swing. Yet another miss! Except for the ant hill. He had taken out the rest of the ants with the exception of 2 of the ants. One of the ants looked at the other and said in an urgent manner, " If we want to survive, we had better get on the ball!"
As a species we need to realize that Mother Nature has no measure of time or individuals. When things go awry, she will fix them in her own way and in her own time without regard to guilty or innocent. If we do not minimize the damage we do, she will do it for us and if that includes the elimination of our species, then it is just a byproduct of nature bringing things back into balance.
Like The Guess Who say in their song, "there's a new mother nature taking over, she's gettin' us all!
So get on the ball and do your part to make sure we survive and prosper by helping all facets of our environment alleviate the stress we have put on our waterways and oceans, our air and our land.
That does not mean we over react and prohibit anything and everything! It means we act with thought and science using reason, logic and commonsense!
