The Calling of Abraham
This is one of the best of my devotional insights.
The Calling of Abraham
Passage:
Then the Lord told Abram,"leave your country,
your relatives, and your father's house and go
to the land I will show. "
Genesis 12:1
Abraham was seventy five years old when God called him and gave him a great mission to be a father of a great nation.
Why at seventy five years old? Why not at 25 when Abraham was a robust young man or even at 35 when Abraham was still very much at the prime of his life.
Our society considers age as a prime factor in almost everything. If a woman's age closes to forty and she is still single, she is considered as left behind. Classified ads of newspapers reveal only corporate's discrimination against age. The worls has a place only for the young, strong and mighty.
God held the time table for Abraham. For him, age seventy five is the best year for Abraham to fulfill his calling. God indeed has prepared a perfect time table for each of his children. There are times we may not comprehend, but God's timing is just perfect.
As believers, we should not be dependent upon the time table of the "world" or even be pressured by it. We have to hold on to God's plan for our life. We must trust His wisdom completely.
The world may have no more place to give to a seventy five -year old man, but God has always a special calling even to the very old folks. At 80 or beyond, God has still reserved his purposes for your life.
