The Carousel called life

Updated on July 15, 2013

The Carousel

You get your ticket to bored the ride,

your excitement and expectations are difficult to hide.

You climb up onto that beautiful horse,

wondering what will be your course.

The bells are chiming and lights are flashing,

smiling faces are all a blur in passing.

Your heart begins to race and sing,

you stretch your arm out to catch the brass ring.

Almost had it in your hand

next time around you’ll try to lean and stand.

Yet the ride slows down and you wonder why?

Oh please god just give me one more try!

You hear a bell ring signaling the end is near,

but your not ready to leave, your hearts filled with fear.

Why must you get only one twirl around?

It isn’t enough time you fretfully frown.

I want more time to make things right,

Oh why did I waste time with foolish fights?

I want to travel to far away lands,

to the beach once more to feel the warm sand.

I want to sing and dance till the mornings light,

laugh and cry to my hearts delight!

I want to feel my daughters hand in mine,

warn her about the importance of time!

I want to linger forever in my lovers embrace,

searing into my memory the lines of his face.

Had I known this ride went so fast,

I would have loved harder and let go of the past.

As I lower myself down from this beautiful place,

Eternity now will set my pace!

Definitely just a few things could be done over, only with the knowledge I have today, otherwise I'd probably make the same mistakes! Thanks for stoping by Beth!

It would be nice at times to do it over.

I wish sometimes we could get off the ride and run back through the "fast pass line" and get right back on and do it over again! Wouldn't that be a hoot! Boy the things I would love to do over! Thanks for stopping by.

Lying in the darkness with my kitties and a young pup who refuses to be housebroken. Time to walk the dog, and wait and wait and wait for her to do her business at 11:02 Cumberland, Rhode Island time. Hehehe

.......It's funny how great minds think alike - I wrote one a couple of weeks ago about a carousel of life and how God was the operator.

But I simply love your words here - they are full of dreams and hopes and poetic visions as I have gotten older myself I am somehow drawn to the dreamlike state of a carousel and its metaphor (for me anyway) of just watching life go by as you ride and ride and ride - and your beautiful poetic opus here took me for a ride - and quite frankly I didn't want to get off.

Sending warm wishes from Colin and his pussycats and listening to the Gun Club, the Bonzo Dog Band and Tom Waits tonight at lake erie time ontario canada 10:58pm
