The New Birth : The Greatest Blessing of All

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and unto inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

I Peter 1 : 3 – 5

The miracle of the new birth is wholly a work of God. It is a gift from God. It is not by our own work and effort that we will achieve born again experience. God gives new birth to a person as a byproduct of his mercy to that certain individual.

It is written in I Peter 2:10 ;

“Once you were not a people, but now you are a people of God , once you had not received mercy but now you have received mercy.”

The salvation of a certain person is the ultimate act of God’s mercy in that person’s life.There will be no greater blessing than salvation and there will be no greater miracle than the miracle of the “new birth.”

We become people of God, means we have received salvation, because first we received God’s mercy. The mercy of God has arrived in our life the moment we got born again. We got born again the moment we receive Christ as our Savior and Lord and repent from all our sins. Acceptance of the Lord Jesus in one’s life must be accompanied by deep repentance from all sins. Without repentance, there is no true born again experience.

To be born again, we must first see our depravity and sinfulness before God. Conviction of sin is a work of the Holy Spirit and must happen in order to be saved .If we accept Christ as our Savior without conviction of sin , thenthere will be no genuine born-again experience. If we come to Christ because of some material needs or comfort without conviction of sin, without seeing our depravity and our need to be saved from our sins,then we will not be truly born again.

A true born again Christian has first saw his utter depravity and sinfulness before God.He has been broken upon seeing his sinfulness and see that he is hopeless apart from the cross of Christ.He has seen that there is nothing he can do to save himself , and he has seen the cross of Christ as the only solution for and hope for him. He feels the need of coming to Christ as his means to be saved. The genuine born-again experience isnot a work of a man. It can never achieved by man’s efforts, it is an act of God.

The miracle of the new birth is the greatest miracle that can happen to a person. This is the greatest blessing a person can receive in his entire life. Upon our new birth, we receive a “living hope “ in Christ . This living hope is first guaranteed by the resurrection of JesusChrist. This living hope is present in every born again Christian.It can never be stolen from him. Unpleasant circumstances in a believer’s life will never blot out the living hope in him. The living hope is ever alive in a true Christian, whatever circumstances he may experience in his life.

Every true Christian is called to a living hope.. This living hope is all about heavenly inheritance in Christ. Only God can give it. A very rich person, no matter how rich he may become by this world standard, without experiencing the new birth will never possess the “living hope.” A person maybe just an ordinary citizen of this world with no much wealth, but having experienced the miracle of the new birth, he becomes a possessor of a very great heavenly inheritance. He is much blessed than the richest person in the world who has no “Christ.”

So far, having received the miracle of the new birth is the greatest blessing a person can have in his life. For it is a blessing coupled with a very great heavenly inheritance. We must constantly pray for God’s mercy for the people of the world. We must constantly pray for God’s mercy for our unbelieving loved ones and friends..
