The Shield of Faith
This piece of armor is by far the most written about and spoken of in the Christian circles. Teachers go to great lengths to explain exactly what faith is. However, just as the word faith implies, it takes faith to know faith. Faith is the avenue through which the grace and mercy of God is distributed in our lives. We have read of His grace and mercy and we have heard of His grace and mercy, but we must receive His grace and mercy by faith. The Bible says that 'without faith it is impossible to please God.' (Hebrews 11:6) And 'faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of what we cannot see'.(Hebrews 11:1) We can only please God by doing what He tells us to do and we can only do what He tells us to do by faith. Faith is a result of the conviction that propels us into action. And faith assures us that what God has said is truth. Human experience cannot assure us of His truth .. Our feelings and emotions cannot assure us of His truth .. Our family and friends cannot assure us of His truth. And how do we get to His truth? By becoming familiar with His Word, the Holy Bible. Faith causes us to act and react with such confidence that we become living testimonies to those in doubt or disbelief. Faith breeds knowledge and wisdom and understanding of who God is and what He wants and desires for us as a whole and as individuals. We cannot see God with our human eyes nor can we touch Him with our human hands. The world (the society of the enemy) will only believe after they have seen. But, with God, we are to believe before we see. And our belief will cause us to make decisions and choices that will testify to the truth and of God. Faith gives us the confidence to proclaim His truth on this earth. And faith protects us from the onslaught of the lies and deceptions of the enemy. We receive by faith and we give by faith. The faith within us will change us and those that are around us. Faith will convince a doubting world of the love and truth of God the Father .. Of the sacrifice and gift of His loving Son .. Of the comfort and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Faith allows us a glimpse into the spiritual realm. Faith sees and believes in the human spirit, what cannot be seen nor believed with our physical senses. Faith believes and faith does in accordance with this belief. Faith gives direction and sets goals for the believer. Faith causes us to pray and to praise and worship and to seek. The enemy is not so much a danger to our faith, as our faith is a danger to the enemy. Let us take up our shield.
