The Story of Goddess Sheetla the Deity of healing Viral and infectious diseases and the festival of Basrhe

Updated on May 5, 2020

Lord Brahman sent Goddess Sheetla to heal the world and to infuse the awareness of cleanliness.

We see that there is broom in her one hand that symbolizes cleanliness. Soop(to clean the grain), in her other hand. It symbolizes to mentain the grain.

The leaves of Neem in her third hand that symbolizes the importance of anti biotic tree Neem.

The Urn in her fourth hand with pious water. The Dung of donkey is used to stick on the boil fur.

Measles and Chicken pox diseases are very dangerous and many died with these diseases.

This Deity gives us a lesson that is precautions are better than cure.

Very long time ago there were no medical treatment of these diseases. Through precautions and herbs we remained healthy. But where negligence starts there diseases reside. Goddess Sheetla is the form of Goddess Durga.

What type of problem appears Goddess Durga transforms herself according to that situation.

The Story of Sheetla Mata and the King Virat:---

Mata Sheetla was sent on Earth by Lord Brahman with the sweat of Lord Shivji in the form of Jawar Damon. They came into the kingdom of king Virat. But Virat did not give place to reside for mother Sheetla. Sheetla Mata got angry at his behaviour.

With the furious anger of Mata the public of Virat King was in great trouble. The rashes and the red boil furs arose on their bodies. The king Virat felt his mistake and asked for pardon.

He seated her in proper place. His public offered cold milk and cold curd. Since that time people has been offering cold food and cold eatable things and cold drinkable things. They took fast to get her boon.

The Story of Mahabharata the wife of Dronacharya and Shitla Mata

In the war of Mahabharat Guru Dronacharya died a heroic death. His wife Kripi committed suicide as Sati. She burnt with Guru Dronacharya's funeral ceremony. Since then these little huts symbolizes to bow the head in front of Satis. She blessed the people and said, "The people who come here for taking their wishes will be fulfill ".This place is in Gurugram.

These little huts are worshipped as Sheetla Mata and as Kuldevi with stale eatable and drinkable things. Scientific reason of calling this festival Basrhe (the time of stale eatable and drinkable things ) has finished till now the Krishan Paksh Ashtmi of Falgun Month, the end of March. After this Ashtmi the stale things will be harmful and injurious for health. After this day Summer season is started.

Sheetla Mata gives us a message of cleanliness with broom, Urn with pious cold water for mentaining health, the leaves of Neem for germ destroyers and the fourth hand for fearless pose to remain fearless. The ride of donkey also gives a message that donkey's dung is helpful to destroy the germs of rashes and boil fur. Shivji explained the importance of Goddess Sheetla in Sheetlashtk Stotar.

As the Goddess of Viral and infectious diseases we pray to Sheetla Mata to omit the name of Corona Virous in the world and realise her name.
