The Way to True Blessedness : Insight on Psalm Chapter One

Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked

or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.

But his delight is in the Law of the Lord and on His Law he meditates

day and night.

He is like a tree planted by the streams of water which yields its fruits in season

and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prosper.

Psalm Chapter 1 : 1 to 3

Who are the truly happy people ?

According to Psalm Chapter one the truly happy and blessed people are the true believers

who delight in the Law of the Lord and meditate on God’s Word day and night.

His contentment is found on obeying the commandments of God. His happiness is based on pleasing the Lord and doing His will. He gives top priority on meditating and studying the Word of God. He studies the Word diligently and gives sufficient time for reflecting on it. He examines the Word of God daily and sees to it if it is applied well in his life.

During this modern era, people are preoccupied with so many things. There are so many things in the world that takes away the time of many people. The influx of modern technology has filled today’s modern men and women with many preoccupations such as the internet and cellphone. But the time spent on meditating the Word of God is a very precious time. It paves the way to true blessedness. We have the freedom in choosing how to spend our time, but we have to use our freedom in leading us to truly happy and satisfying life.

What are the benefits of studying and meditating the Word of God ?

There are many benefits to be derived from studying the Word of God. Some of these things are :

1) We are guided to right doctrine and correct teachings.

2) We are given principles for godly and righteous living.

3) We are given principles for happy and successful life.

4) We are given principles and instructions regarding successful relationships.

5) We are given exhortations that strengthen our spiritual lives.

6) We are given instructions regarding fulfilling God’s will and purpose for our lives.

7) We are given instructions and knowledge about God and His ways, how He deals with people.

The true happy and blessed people are the true believers who does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly. Who are our counselors ? Our counselors may refer to the people we listen to, to the people whose book we read or from it we derive insights for living. It could also be the media.. The truly blessed people are the ones who shun wicked counselors, who close their ears from ungodly counsel. The kind of books we read may contribute to our success or downfall. The kind of books we read, the TV programs we watch may contribute to the quality of life we live.

The true blessed people are the true believers who does not stand in the way of sinners nor sit in the seat of mockers. The places where we hangout will influence our lifestyle . If we hangout on bars and beerhouses, it will make our life deteriorate morally. The true believers who abide by the Word of God will not hangout in places that will lead them to an immoral life.

Rewards of delighting in God’s Word and Forsaking the Way of Sinners

A man who delights in the Word of God and forsakes the ways of the wicked is like a tree planted by the streams of water. A true believer is liken to a tree. Why a tree ?

The tree has many uses. It is a source of food that nourishes our body. It gives us shade from sun’s scorching heat. It’s trunk is used as a material for housing.

A true believer who delights in the Word of God and forsakes the way of sinners is liken to a tree which has many uses. This believer is productive and is a channel of blessings to many. God blesses the works of his hands. Whatever endeavour he engages himself prosper. This believer is a shelter to many. Many seek comfort in his words. Like a sturdy tree he cannot easily be shaken by the storms of life for his foundation is the Word of God.

The key to true happiness and blessedness is godliness, which is abiding by the Word of God and shunning wicked ways.

One outstanding example of this believer is Pastor John MacArthur. Pastor John MacArthur pastors GraceCommunityChurch in Sun Valley, California and serves as president of The Master’s College and seminary. All throughout his more than forty years of ministry, Pastor John MacArthur is a man of one book the Bible. He is a well-known Bible expositor and conference speaker, he has written numerous books including the wellknown Gospel According to Jesus and the MacArthur New Testament Commentary series. His international radio broadcast has been a great blessings to many Christians all over the world. His ministry has been a blessing also to many pastors all over the world.

Among today’s preachers of God’s Word, John MacArthur has one of the greatest impact to modern day Christianity. He is one outstanding example of a Christian who really places top priority on the Word of God and one who truly separates from the ways of the ungodly.
