The Word of God is Sadly Ignored

One can find a Bible in almost every hotel in America and most all of Europe. You only have to open the top dresser drawer next to the bed. There is usually at least one on top or below of the coffee table of many homes in America.

Some surveys show the Bible to be a highly regarded book. However, the fact remains we live in one of the most Biblically ignorant generations in the history of Western Civilization. The percentage of white Christians in America has fallen below 50 percent for the first time ever.

This ignorance of God’s Word is not only the unsaved Gentile but extends even to the body of Jesus Christ. The question I pose is can you be a real Christian and have the opportunity to read His Word and intentionally not do it?

Or can you believe in some philosophical, abhorrent thought, or doctrine and be a Christian? The consequences of this failure to read the Word of God could be devastating for the United States and Europe.

It is crystal clear to me many people in America do not know the Word of God. Most Christians in America do not believe that Satan is real or the Holy Spirit exists. What?

Without much conjecture, this results from a critical failure to know even the most elementary principles of the Bible. In a Barna survey, even though the Bible makes it abundantly clear that Jesus Christ lived a sinless life, twenty-two percent believe that Jesus Christ sinned.

This is not only a critical failure to know the Word of God, but is blasphemy. The Humanist Manifesto envisioned a world without God. This philosophy is firmly established not only in secular life but also it has crept its way into the Church as evidenced by the decline in Christianity.

Here is a warning from Dr. Vinson Synan, the Dean Emeritus of Regent University School of Divinity. "If you are Biblically illiterate, you'll fall into every kind of sin, and every kind of problem and that is the problem with our country"

"If you know the Bible, if you know the Ten Commandments, they're warnings, so that we can live a wonderful life," he added. Dr. Synan states the real problem is famine - not a famine for food, but famine for the Word of God. "Amos chapter 8 tells us about the days that are coming, they'll be 'a famine on the land, not a famine for bread or thirst for water, but rather for hearing the word of the Lord,' he explained.

"The saddest part is that young virgins and young men will faint for thirst," he said. "It doesn't mention that older generation, but it mentions the young people. They're idealistic. Young people need something to live for and the only thing that actually satisfies that hunger is the Word of God."

The founder of The Call prayer movement, Lou Engle said, “Not knowing the truth leaves a person vulnerable to deception. If you get off the truth, you move into a realm of deception and ultimately, you think you are walking with God but you are not walking with God."

Engle stressed that there's a great danger in being "spiritual" but not knowing the Word of God. "Jesus said, 'It is written' when he was tempted! This generation has to say, 'It is written.' It has to know that Word if they are going to overcome the enemy!"

Today’s Christian is deeply mired in popular secular culture and politically incorrect thinking. I read somewhere that a growing number of Evangelicals agree with same-sex marriage. The divorce rate among Christian’s is declining but is still a sore spot in the Bible.

"What we're finding out is that a generation has been taught moral relativity," Engle said. "Our pastors are filled with moral relativity because they have not preached the truth of the Word of God to this generation." The declining rate of Biblical knowledge is one of the planks of the Humanist Manifesto three. One of my favorite researchers, Dr. George Barna, made the following statements.

"Most Americans, even those who say they are Christian, have doubts about the intrusion of the supernatural into the natural world," Barna has also written several books on America's faith. He continues, "Hollywood has made evil accessible and tame, making Satan, and demons less worrisome than the Bible suggests they really are," he added. "It is hard for achievement-driven, self-reliant, independent people to believe that their lives can be impacted by unseen forces."

Make no doubt about it, this was one of the principal goals of the Humanist Manifesto. How does this invade the Church? Paul said to the Thessalonians, “But we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw from every brother who walks disorderly and not according to the tradition that he received from us.”

Paul also says, "And if anyone does not obey our word in this epistle, note that person and do not keep company with him, that he may be ashamed. Yet do not count him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother." (2 Thessalonians 3.6, 14)

There are so many views within the churches of America that conflict with the Word of God. The people within the churches of America are part of the body of Christ. Now let us reason together. There should be no conflict within the body of Christ on the earth today and the Word of God.

It seems that the Christian who is ignorant of the Word of God is now concerned about our decreasing religious freedoms. Forty-one percent believe that religious freedoms of Christians are being infringed upon, up from thirty-three percent in 2012.

This according to another Barna survey. Evangelicals are the most concerned at almost seventy percent. Perhaps conjectural this is because they know more about the Word of God. Obviously, other religious groups were less concerned that brings the total to the overall forty-one percent.

The shooting deaths in Oregon were Christians shot by a hater of the Christian religion. But instead of calling this a hate crime, former President Obama used the occasion to milk the shooting for gun control rather than identify the event for what it was – a hate crime against Christians.

Wake up Christians and America. If you are not a Muslim, your death at the hands of haters will be used as a politized event for gun control. Every Christian in America should be screaming for Washington to wake up and drink a cup of reality. Christians are persecuted too!

The driver of the car at Ohio State that injured innocent people was of the Islamic faith and responding to the objectives of the Islamic Caliphate. It was clearly intended to promote fear and confusion. How many attacks does it take to objectively reconsider the Koran for what it is - a book of hate instead of the love found in the Word of God.

Truth, The Only Truth Worth a Patut is the Bible!

With the discussion of the Bible it is important to keep this principle in mind: Herbert Spencer said, ―There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all argument, and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance. That principle is condemnation before investigation. (Paley 29)

Always remember, unless the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is at the negotiating table, all negotiation is fruitless.

Please note: I invite your comments and suggestions. Over the last two years, I have had comments from Christians, existentialists, logical positives, Hindus, Buddhists, liberal Humanists, liberal Protestants, liberal Roman Catholics, Reformed Jews, agnostics, and atheist. I love them all. I believe they are sincere in their beliefs. Some of the above are sincerely wrong.

I hope you learn by reading the short articles. I hope they inspire you to study the Word of God. Within lies salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ, the only way to God. (John 14.6)
