The plan of Salvation by Blood

Updated on September 26, 2015

Why the blood?

From the very beginning, even from Genesis, our God has been a God of sacrifice. In fact in the entire bible, especially in the old testament, we see numerous examples of sacrifice. When man sinned(disobeyed God) after being tricked by the serpent, then fear, shame death and so many evil consequences followed. Genesis 3:10 and forward.

God then clothed them with garments of animal skin . To do this, a sacrifice had to be made. An animal had to be killed for its skin to be used to cover their nakedness.

We could also see throughout the old testament. For example, when God told Abraham to sacrifice his son beloved son, Isaac. A lamb was used as a replacement for the blood of Isaac but in the New Testament, God didn't spare his son Jesus Christ on the cross for our sins. Although it was the will of Jesus to be used as the perfect atonement for our sins.

There are a lot of examples I could use. When the law (10 commandments) were given and other Levitical laws was given, we see that God chose the blood as a propitiation of sins and had forbidden the eating of blood because he considered it sacred.

For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life.

— Leviticus 17:11 NIV

This the major reasons why the Israelites sacrifice animals on the altar for atonement of sins. Not that it actually took away their sins but it was a constant reminder of their sins and a foreshadow of the true sacrifice to come in the person of Jesus Christ being crucified on the cross.

Blood, An atonement for sins
Blood, An atonement for sins

From here we see that the blood makes atonement for the soul. But if this is the case, why should we not be able to make atonement for our sins, the bible is clear on this. God requires a perfect sacrifice and because we are sinners, our blood has been contaminated and cannot be used for atonement of sins.

The animals you choose must be year-old males without defect, and you may take them from the sheep or the goats.

— Exodus 12:5 NIV

The purpose of the law

The law was given to show that no one is righteous before God and all have sinned.

Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. Galatians 3:24

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

— Romans 3:23

Since we have all sinned and are already condemned. Our fate is to be in hell but God in his mercy and love sent his son Jesus who was born of a virgin to die on the cross for our sins. He was sinless such that he was able to question his opponents, "Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me?" (John 8:46).

Since Jesus was the perfect sacrifice, he showed that he was worthy by his lifestyle, sinlessness and his words. He also had miracles to show. He had the credentials to back up his claim. He even prophesied that he would be killed and rise up on the third day which he eventually fulfilled.

There are a lot of prophesies in the bible about the coming Christ who would die for our sins. Psalm 22 is an example as well as Isaiah 53. Psalm 23 was written at a time when crucifixion didn't even exist and yet Jesus fulfilled the prophecy.

For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me. They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.

— Psalm 22:16-18

God's love

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 (KJV)

God has shown us his love because even though we rebelled against him and disobeyed him and lived our own evil ways, he was still willing to go to he cross, suffer a brutal torment and finally execution. He had the chance to stop all these but he chose to suffer everything for our sakes so that anyone who believes in him will be saved because it is written that anyone who calls upon the name of the lord [Jesus] will be saved.

The time is short and no one knows when we die. No one has the key to death. Only Jesus has it. When you die do you want to go to an everlasting place of torment in the lake of fire after all Jesus Christ suffered on the cross so that you may be free or would you accept the sacrifice confess your sins and be saved.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

— John 3:16

Is there Hell or Heaven?

Yes, Heaven and hell is real. The one who came down from heaven told us that heaven and earth is real. If there is no heaven, then the chicken are far better than us human beings because when they die, we sweat and spend energy preparing dead chicken, we spend a lot of money and time queueing at fast foods like KFC, McDonalds, Nandos etc. How much more us who are made in the image and likeness of God.

Heaven and hell is real and please do not and I mean do not wait till you die before you find out because then, it will be too late. Eternity is a long time to be wrong.

I'm not writing this to scare you but to tell you the reality. Anyone who dies without Christ has lived a useless life because it will be better they were not born at all than enjoy life die and burn in the lake of fire for eternity. Jesus has paid the price for your sins so that you might become the righteousness of God. Don't overlook this free gift of salvation because it has a grave consequence.

How serious is hell?

When we are thirsty, we ask for a glass of water, some people a jug of water or even a barrel of water. Depends on how thirsty and heavy the drinker is but i have never met anyone who would ask for a drop of water when thirsty until i came across the rich man in the bible, he being a rich man on earth was begging for a finger tip of water. Imagine what a drop of water can do to a thirsty soul. That's the reality of hell. Don't let ignorance or arrogance cost you your free gift of salvation. Run to Jesus while he may be found. Don't wait till you die and it's too late.

Don't wait till the plane of salvation leaves the airport before you run to it. I tell you it will be too late by then just like it was too late in the times of Noah when Noah warned the people of his time and they didn't listen until the ark was shut and the flood began but by then it was too late. I tell you there will be great weeping and gnashing of teeth.

It is up to you

I once heard a story.

There was a wise man who said things that always come to pass. He went from village to village telling people about what will happen and it always ended up happening. He was to pass by a village on his way and a young boy wondered, "How is it possible that what this man says always come to be true. I will prove him wrong this time".

So he went and caught a butterfly and decided what he was going to do with it. He decided that he will put it between his fist and ask the man if the butterfly is dead or alive. If the wise man said it is dead, he would release the live butterfly to prove him wrong and if the wise man said it is alive, he would crush it and show that the butterfly is dead.

The day came and the boy asked as expected but the wise man paused for a moment and said, "It is up to you". It is up to you whether you choose eternal life or eternal condemnation.

What can I do to be saved?

If you have decided to give your life to Christ and avoid hell. You need to repent (turn away from your old evil ways), be sincere and pray a similar prayer as below. God is faithful, he will forgive you your sins and will begin a personal relationship with you. His holy spirit will come to indwell you and you will be directed by his spirit.

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

— Revelation 3:20

Prayer

Here is how you can begin that relationship with him. Jesus said:

Right now you can invite Jesus Christ into your life. The words are not important. What matters is that you respond to him, in light of what he has done for you, and is now offering you. You could say to him something like, "Jesus, I believe in you. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I ask you to forgive me and to come into my life right now. I want to know you and follow you. Thank you for coming into my life and giving me a relationship with you, right now. Thank you."
