Though I am Silent #2
Earlier
As we all misconstrue the silence of some people on some matter in the world, so God is talking to the people in the book of Psalms 50:21 that the wicked people have misconstrued his silence… reasons for misconstruing his silence are stated in the verses preceding verse 21 and this I started elucidating in the first article.
5. Gives Their Mouths to Evil
They have been like serpent in the garden of Eden which gave its heart and mouth to the devil to use. (Gen 3) They speak evil from the multitudes of their hearts.
“Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit.” (Psa 50:19)
What repeatedly come out of their mouths is evil, evil words, destructive criticisms, hardly could they utter good words because of the evils in their hearts and when we think they are uttering good words check it out, they utter such words because of what they want to gain from there.
“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.” (Luk 6:45)
Judas Iscariot is an example of people like this.
“Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him,
“Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?
“This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.” (Joh 12:4-6)
What Judas says here could be considered good word, good counsel but the author of the book of John let us know that because the man knows what he stands to gain from the suggestion if it is followed that was why he offered the suggestion.
6. Their Tongue Frames Deceit
We wonder how some people talk sub-cortically in some instances, and this is common with those who are deep necked in telling lies, they hardly think before framing and forming and presenting lies to people. They are physiological liars.
“Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit.” (Psa 50:19)
The wicked people have handed over their tongues to the devil to use in framing lies always. There is no one they cannot lie to, they are like their father the devil.
“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” (Joh 8:44)
7. They Speak Against their Brother
Another terrible thing that the wicked does which he sees the Lord is not seeing is speaking against their brethren.
“Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thine own mother's son.” (Psa 50:20)
We have been enjoined not to sit among the congregation of the wicked people.
“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.” (Psa 1:1)
These people however sit among the wicked people and they readily speak evil of their brethren, speak evil of other believers, what they knew nothing about they speak of to tarnish the image of their brethren.
“But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;” (2 Pet 2:12)
8. They Slander Their Siblings
Slander is defined as a false statement uttered maliciously that damages a person’s reputation.
“Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thine own mother's son.” (Psa 50:20)
They do not slander outsiders, but the person they slander are their siblings, perhaps because such is making it in life, because he has surpassed them. That was what Joseph’s siblings did to him apart from envying him they slandered him and would eventually sell him off as a slave.
The above are what the wicked people do as the author stated. Yet they look down on the righteous and the righteous on seeing them looking down on him becomes confused, asking themselves what is happening, saying they have labored in vain, saying their works have no reward.
“Ye have said, it is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of hosts?
“And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered.” (Mal 3:14-15)
C) Though I am Silent
Though God is silent, but the silence is for a moment, the silence should not be misconstrued to mean weakness, timidity, he is expecting their changes.
“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Pet 3:9)
D) People’s Perception of His Silence
The wicked ones perception about God’s silence on all their wrongdoings is that he is like them, a wicked and callous God who glories in doing evil and wickedness. They have forgotten that he is righteous God and evil has no place with him.
“These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.” (Psa 50:21)
E) His Decision
He wants them to know that for all they have done and are doing, he sees all of those what he plans to do therefore is two:
(i) Reprove Them: The Hebrew word for reprove is “יכח”, the romanticized form is yâkach (phonetic spelling is yaw-kakh') which means rebuke, correct, chasten, correct, dispute.
He promises to correct the false notion that is in them that he does not see a thing and chasten them where they needed to be chastened.
(ii) Set Them in Order Before Them: He will not chasten without letting them know those things which they have done which is wrong. He promised to itemize those before them so that they will know those things which they have done which are wrong lest they say God is not fair in his dealing with them.
God is telling the people that he is not blind neither deaf nor dumb and he has the record of everything we are doing in the world with him, though he may not talk, though he may not react to some of the things which we are doing but that does not mean that he does not see them and he promised to bring them into the light before all.
This, God, will also do at the end of the world when the records of all that we have done in the flesh would be opened unto him and therefore, the silence now should not misconstrued as some are misconstruing it, but should be seen as a call from him to repentance. He is again calling all back to himself now, and we should not hesitate to answer the call.
