Time - our most valuable commodity and what it means to us in life
We all want to achieve things in our lives. We hare human. But how much Time do we have to achieve those goals, and those dreams? How many years do we have left? How far have we come – and how near to those goals are we now? I have a friend, and he is short on time. Life has been too short for him to find all the amazing things in life he was meant to find, and things to accomplish. It’s amazing how that short time makes us cherish time even more. SO much poetry and music has been composed about this amazing thing we even have nick-named “Father Time”. Time seems plentiful till suddenly there is not enough of it, and then we are rushing to get everything finished before time runs out.
How many years do we have left on this planet? How many Decembers are left for each of us? Time is of the essence. The window of opportunity does not remain open forever. We all have just a finite amount of time to get or find all the things we desire. Our philosophy sometimes seems to blind us from finding this.
We have only a certain amount of time to grow, to get our education. Only a certain amount of time to fall in love – and maybe find that special person we have all been looking for. Only so much time is left for us to make that pile of money we always dreamed of, or find that formula for financial success. We have only so much time to visit all those magical far off places we have dreamed of visiting. We all take advantage of the time we live in. And we have to be as Tough as the times we live in. And most of all, we have to make the Time. Because time is short. And Time is Valuable.
We are supposed to get work by a certain time, have babies by a certain time (for women anyway) – that’s if we are so inclined to want babies…or raise the families we are planning (if that is our plan). We also have to pay off those bills, those loans and mortgages by a certain time. We also want to solve those problems we may have or obstacles we may have stopped at or got stuck at. Some world leaders have so much time to get their lists of “things to do” actually done. Remember the time we were studying and cramming for those school exams and how we were rushing to finish our exam papers on time? Maybe there is someone we know we need to say things to, to make peace with, to settle matters and close things and tidy up friendship matters. A person we need to say Sorry to, perhaps? Time can be our friend, and then at other times it runs against us.
Time is a Mystery and so beautiful when it gives itself to us, it almost has human qualities and we mourn when it vanishes or is taken away. It is so easy to lose track, and miss-manage our most valuable resource. We live by its rules and sometimes live in ignorance of the shortness of time. When we lose time, it’s funny how we never get it back, and we spend our lives wishing what might have been. Let’s learn again what time means to all of us. It is unique, it is a genie that grants us a wish the moment we are born, but we never know it. Time can be there in front of you like a scene or a beautiful sunset. Or it can be found in the sunrise. Maybe it’s a sign of a higher power or a kind of spirituality at work, and we are blissfully unaware. We are babes in Time's Playground. And we all wish it would last longer…
