To Týr :A Norse Thanksgiving Prayer
Tyr,
Eternal One,
guide me to remember the hungry,
guide me to remember the mourner,
guide me to remember the children of my enemies,
and the sick and blind and old.
For only in showing compassion
is compassion shown to us.
Eternal One,
guide me to honor my wedded one
and the children of my line,
guide me to honor my friends.
Guide me to relish the pleasures of the flesh,
for only by gratitude of life’s enjoyments
can we enjoy them after death.
Eternal One,
guide me not to hasten
the death that comes to all,
guide me not to seek the Halls of the Gods
but to re-create them on these plains;
for vanity is the god
of he that sacrifices what the gods have given.
Eternal One,
help me to bring justice
where hope has gone astray.
Help me to accept all joys and all sorrows,
and to reject evil that shuns this life.
Father to all Thankful ancestors,
guide me to give
for the mere sake of giving
this day and all days to come,
that I may walk in peace,
from this world and into evermore.
