Triambkeshwar Jyotirling tells the story of Lord Shivji and his devotees Gautam Rishi and his wife Ahilya

Triambkeshwar Jyotirling is the place where Lord Shivji appeared to remove the blame that's not committed by Gautam Rishi and accused of cow killing and declared as Brahamhatyara by Brahmans.

Here's a story of Triambkeshwar Jyotirling :---

Gautam Rishi lived in Triambak area at the foot of Brahamgiri Mountain, in his Ashram with his wife Ahilya. Both were kind hearted and had deep faith in God.

Once there was no rain since 24 years and there was a famine. Everything and every place was drying.

They did penance for Lord Varundev the Lord of water.

They made Aawahan(to call Varundev by chanting Mantras) by penance. Varundev appeared and ask for calling. They told that this was for the welfare of humanity. As there is no rain and famine is everywhere. Lord Varundev asked them to dig the pit like a kund. They dug the pit and Varundev poured endless water (Akshay jal) into the kund. The quality of this Akshay Jalkund was that the water never finished after so much use.Anyone could use this water.

The wives of Brahmans came to bring the water from this Jalkund. The two children already presented there for water ,as it was for all. There was a dispute among them for their turn and began to quarrel and called Ahilya as an egoistic woman and proud of Jalkund. Ahilya convinced them but they annoyed and went away.

As they returned home, they provoked their husbands. They also agreed with their thinking. All were against Gautam Rishi and Ahilya.

They did penance for Lord Ganeshji and did Aavahan (called). Lord Ganeshji asked for calling. They told their selfish motive. Lord Ganeshji tried to convince them that this is not good for you and Gautam Rishi. But Brahmans were not agreed and Lord Ganeshji had to join their planning.Lord Ganeshji also tried to convince them that it would be beneficial for Gautam Rishi in the long run.

Lord Ganeshji transformed himself into the cow that was about to die and went into the field of Gautam Rishi

As Gautam Rishi went near her and touched, she fell down and died. It was the planning of Brahmans and they were looking him by hiding themselves. As the cow fell down and died, they gathered there and began to threaten him and declared him the killer of cow and also declared him Brahamhatyara and told him to leave the Aashram for its repentance.

Gautam Rishi had to leave the Aashram. But after leaving the Aashram, the Brahmans gave instructions for not doing worship ,Vedpath and Yagai.

Gautam Rishi asked what to do for its repentance.

You have to revolve around the Earth three times with repentance of your crime.

After this you have to revolve around Brahamgiri mountain for one hundred one times.

After that take a fast for one month.

Bring Gangaji here and after taking bath with its water and make one crore Parthiv (soil made) Shivlings. Then do worship of Shivji. After that Shivlings should be bathed with Gangajal. Then bath yourself with one hundred pitchers. Only then your curse will be removed.

Gautam Rishi and his wife took it as a boon of Lord Shivji and began to make Shivlings and did all the worships that were told by Brahmans. When they performed all the worships, Lord Shivji appeared and ask for problem. Rishi told that the cow was killed by him. So for repentance I did all the worships.

Lord Shivji told them that you had not killed the cow. It was only the planning of Brahmans who wanted to declare you defaulter. Ask something other.They asked for Gangaji and she also appeared with Lord Shivji.

After too much sufferings were given by Brahmans they remained the well wishers of them. Gautam Rishi demanded what was for the goodness for all. All the Brahmans and Rishi Muni were also gathered there.

Gautam Rishi requested to be seated here as Jyotirling and Gangaji is also presented here.Lord Shivji wanted to punish the Brahmans, as they misbehaved with him. But Gautam Rishi didn't agree and praised as they had given a chance to meet with you. These Brahmans are the mediator for me to meet with you. The Brahmans, Rishis and Muni who were presented there, they requested to be seated here.

Lord Shivji seated here as Triambkeshwar Jyotirling. The speciality of this Jyotirling has three faces embodying Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shivji. These jyotirlings are crowned that is covered by jewelry.

When Gangaji appeared on the Earth by the penance of Gautam Rishi she felt as under compulsion she had to go on Earth, so sometimes she disappeared with anger at some places .Gautam Rishi bounded her with Kusha(a sharp edged grass). Because he had to bath in this River for purifying himself.

This river is named Godawri and also is called Kushavarat Ghat. It is at about 400 metres away from triambkeshwar Jyotirling. People take bath first and then go to Triambkeshwar Jyotirling.

It is proved that sins are omitted through penance. Where the rules are broken and sins are increased then God has to come. God gives assurance that pilgrimage become a way to ease the burden of sins on conscience. Pilgrims repent their mistakes and do right in future.

This is the place where his devotees can rest, shedding their burden of guilt on Tridev's feet.
