True Source of Power

Updated on October 31, 2011

The True Source of Power

But Elijah replied to the captain , "If I am a man of God ,let fire come down from heaven and destroy you and your fifty men ". Then fire fell from heaven and killed them all.

2 Kings 1 :10

Elijah indeed is a great man of God . God is always on his side at all times. And whatever his word pronounces surely happen.

Elijah's heart burns for God . He is zealous for the Lord God Almighty. This zeal he has for God led him to confront the 450 prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of Asherah.

Elijah is completely dependent upon God . God had been his ever faithful provider. Elijah had entrusted to God his daily provision and sustenance. Elijah has set an outstanding example of for every servant of the living God.. Elijah has just a very simple lifestyle , he has no wife,no family to comfort him . He found his perfect home in the Lord.

Elijah has an experiential knowledge of God. His knowledge of God is not merely head knowledge . He cannot challenge all the 450 prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of Asherah with merely head knowledge. Knowledge of God and knowledge about God are two different things . If one has an intimate knowledge of God, it means that he experienced revelation of God to himself. While knowledge about God is merely head knowledge without revelational experience with God. One may have mastered all the great doctrines of the bIble yet still may lack spiritual power.

Elijah lived in utter simplicity. He has no possession , he has no wife , he did not possess the great things the world could offer. There is only one treasure he cherishes so much and that is his relationship with God. But this relationship he has with God made him a very powerful man though deprived of all worldly powers. Whatever he said will come to pass. All his prayers were answered.

Just like Elijah , we could be men and women of power, all our prayers will be answered, whatever we pronounce will come true . If only our hearts are right and we have a perfect relationship with God. The true source of power is having a perfect relationship with God.

Great topic to cover Cristina. May the Body of Christ in our modern times have more Elijah's (new wineskins!) so we indeed can be powerful and effective in seeing people saved, healed, delivered - for their benefit as well as the magnification and glorification of our Lord!

Your words about being totally dependent on Him struck a chord with me today. I've been overwhelmed with others trying to tell me how to live my life. What they kept forgetting was that I am to live it FOR Him not for the way society dictates.

      Thank you so much.

      Cristina,

Thank you for a great article.

I use to say that there is a difference between "religion" and "relationship" and it is true, but I've come to the place of further defining the difference between "relationship" and "intimacy". That is what Elijah and other great men and women of faith had. An intimacy with God.

Wow! We need that on a moment by moment bases.

      Thank you again. ~ eddie
