Understanding Religious Differences: The First Step Toward World Peace

Updated on December 28, 2015

Can Christians Lead The Way To World Peace?

If All Christians came together cooperatively to learn about and accept other people and religions, could World Peace be established? Can Christians Lead the Way?

How Can We Begin To Understand?

If understanding other people and their religious beliefs is the key to acceptance and peace, then how can we begin to understand? What does our faith say about our personal relationship with our God and the world? Where do we draw the line between secular messages, and why has the real truth been veiled from our basic understanding. Understanding other people's culture, religion and beliefs can be sought through:

  1. Prayer,
  2. Meditation,
  3. Education.

Many of us were raised by our families to believe that one faith is the only truth. In fact, the lack of understanding of other religions and belief systems causes fear and mistrust. Fear is the root of hate.

The first thing we need to recognize is that most of History is lost and/or extremely filtered or censored. Whether through natural causes such as storms, floods and fire, or through so called "Book Burnings" that quickly dispel the past during international conflict. Propaganda is an easy tool used to erase the truth. Knowing this, all that has been passed down orally and eventually in writing have been contoured for specific purposes and for mass discipline. This is the model for modern politics. Exploitation is a key to damage or repair any decided and given situation. As long as your right hand doesn't know what your left hand is doing, you are good to go with propaganda.

If we become educated and open minded we will begin to experience a peace and serenity that God has intended for us. Many "Devout" Christians make statements such as, "Muslims are to blame for the problems in the world." or, "Islam is an evil faith and all 'those people' in the Middle East are inherently evil and do not want peace". This couldn't be further from the truth.

Life Is Beautiful!

Although the sun may rise and set at different times, we are all creatures under the same sun. The sun makes everything grow and without it, we have no life. Imagine if God took away the sun to prove a point? We would all be decimated and devistated

Mecca: The "Holy" Land

Is The Middle East: The Homeland of War?

The fact is that most people in the world prefer love over hatred, peace before war. Modern Western media portrays Middle Easterners as "Savage, Tribal Warmongers" who want nothing more than to destroy the earth and force those who remain to follow their beliefs.

This couldn't be farther from the truth. In fact, the Middle East is the birthplace of so called "Modern Religion". Christianity and Islam were created from peoples of the same lineage. That is why the "Holy Land" is so sought after. If we knew more about our neighbors couldn't we have a chance at peace?

Meditate To This!

It Is Time To Wake Up People of the Earth!

Although we wake up every day to start a new day, we aren't fully awake in the world. If we spent more time in prayer, learning and reaching out to our brothers and sisters, maybe we would find less reason and time to hate.

Prayer

If we pray to our loving father and ask him for forgiveness from prejudice and sin, we just might have a chance at understanding. We pray the "Our Father" because that is the way Jesus taught us to pray. We ask for forgiveness because without it, our burden is too heavy to bare and we can not focus on the task at hand, we always think about our sins and transgressions. We pray for peace and love, we pray with hope. If we keep hope we can move mountains.

Meditation

Meditation is the process toward freeing of the mind. Simplifying our thoughts and creating a very fine focus is the point of meditation. Meditation is so simple in nature that it is extremely difficult in practice. We need to find a place and a time where we can be free from secular propaganda and outside influence. Detachment from outside sources and internal thoughts must be put into living practice in order to meditate properly. Some key elements to proper and sober meditation are, and are not limited to:

  • Environment-pick a quiet and stress free environment
  • Silence-the key to inner focus is silence. Be silent in action, thought and soul; slow your breathing so that it makes no noise or movement; don't forget to breathe.
  • Music or Sound ("Noise Therapy")- play and listen to, if you so desire, soft music. Play chanting and or A'Capella sound to draw you into focus.
  • Repetition Is Key- When you settle and feel the vibrations of sound flowing through your body and soul, you can begin to release your old thoughts and stress.

Education

Education is important when learning about different cultures, religions, beliefs, and peoples. Education is not rated by scholastic tests or exams. True education is the seeking of facts and knowledge of the past, research and study create the present, and adding everything together brings us the future. The future is influenced by the past but the present is completely in our hands. What we choose to do with our education is what makes a difference and leaves an impact on this world.

This was Christ's "message". Luke 4:43 (NKJV) 43 but He said to them, "I must PREACH the Kingdom of God to other cities also; because FOR THIS REASON I HAVE BEEN SENT."

Again, you have no idea what your talking about.

Thank you for carrying the message of Hope, Paul K Francis. That is the type of conversation that I would like to have here on hubpages. Unfortunately there are ignorant people out there who try to destroy the message of Christ and manipulate words to influence a people away from the true message of Christ. Christ's message was and is simple; Do onto others and Love God. If you practice those simple steps life becomes easier to understand, and more simple. Thanks for making me smile and please come back again.

I like your ideas. Just the fact that you desire peace in the world and believe that it can be so, is a very strong step forward towards that end. Have a great day.

Well thank you Righteousness! I guess I got my first follower here on hubpages. Thanks for making my first day here so exciting. It is great to read your spitting rhetoric. Your repeat of insults every time you reply is truly admirable. For the record, a "Disciple" of Christ IS A CHRISTIAN by default; Christian means "Christ Follower". I'd love to continue battling with you, but Christ is leading me on another path. I'll keep you in my prayers....

Again, you can't be that stupid. I never used the word christian in my comments, I believe I used the word DISCIPLE of Christ. A christian is a pew warmer who listens to liers at the pulpit and never studies their bible's themselves so that they catch their pastor in their false teachings. A disciple is a follower of Christ. You have no clue what you're talking about. How typical of a pastor.

Maybe an insulte or two might help pull you out of your blindness and cause you to wake up and see the light.

And if you understood 1 John 2:22 then you would understand the difference between DISCERNMENT (which is what I was doing) from "Judging" others. Therefore the verses you directed at me from the book of Matthew you have quoted out of context. How typical of a pastor who again has no clue was he's doing

First of all, why do you feel the need to insult me? You call yourself Christian but you are blinded by your own eyes.

You say, "Ask those of the Jewish faith if they believe Jesus Christ is thew Son of God. Ask those of the Islamic faith if they believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Ask those of the Hindu or Wiccan, or Buddist faiths if any of them believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. You will get a; NO from them. " Does that mean you speak for all those people in all those different religions? You are so high on your own pedestal that you forgot where the ground is. I suggest to you, that you pray a bit deeper and ask God to fill your emptiness with Truth. I can sum up all your hate in one quote from Christ:

Matthew 7:1 Judge not, that you be not judged.

Matthew 7:12 So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets."

If that is not enough for you to reflect on, let me know.

You can't be that stupid. Try reading the verses I mentioned in my first comment. Ask those of the Jewish faith if they believe Jesus Christ is thew Son of God. Ask those of the Islamic faith if they believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Ask those of the Hindu or Wiccan, or Buddist faiths if any of them believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. You will get a; NO from them. And according to 1John 2:22 it make them anti-Christ. Nothing in the bible states, suggest or impies that we "disciple" sould talorate false religions. I don't hate people and I don't hate you. I hate false teachings, like what you are doing. I might help if you learn your bible if you want to teach truth.

I will show you those things...when you show me where in the bible (as you say), with exception to Revelation, "This religions you idendentifies in your article are all anti-Christ." So does that mean that all non-Christians as you see them are evil? If you want to learn about tolerance, stop reading these articles and pray to the One who accepted and prayed for ALL...Jesus Christ. You should be ashamed of yourself for your message is hateful. May God have mercy on your soul.

ps We are All sons of Abraham. Read your bible and you will see how we are all related through Abraham.

For a person who calls himself a pastor you sure have no idea what your talking about. Those of the Islamic faith, along with the rest of religious faith out there are all part of the anti-Christ system. The bible teaches in 1 John2:22 what an anti-christ is. This religions you idendentifies in your article are all anti-Christ. So show me in the bible where we are to show talorence to religions that are part of the anti-Christ system. None of the religion believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. So, explain to me were it teaches in the Bible that we as Disciples of Christ are to talorate the anti-Christ system.

It's people like you who call yourselves pastore who twist scripture and take verses out of context to make the bible say what it does not say. Jesus NEVER taught on the subject of talorence wheather you like it or not.
