Value verses Truth

Updated on May 29, 2017

Nature of God's word

What is the Bible? Many view it as historically factual. Others view it as inspired by God Himself. Some doubt it has any relevance upon our lives today. To Christians it is the road leading to heaven. In my eyes, it transcends the barriers of information and reaches into the world of emotions, intentions, thoughts and dreams.

How can one document spark so much controversy? Why is it that many people can look at the same words, the same thoughts and ideas and come to so many different conclusions? Is there a way to find the true significance of this document?

The answer lies in the way we think. Scholars call it philosophy or a study of wisdom.

Philosophy is sub divided into three mayor categories. There is metaphysics, epistemology and axiology. Metaphysics focuses on what is real. Epistemology studies the truth, while axiology searches for the value or physical effects that stem from a concept. When we look at things, we tend to look at them through either one of these three lenses. For example, academic work is normally judged according to epistemological standards. This is one of the reasons why students struggle to adapt within the business world. There is a sudden change of paradigm. In the real world, people don't care what the text book says. We demand results. Money drives the world economy. Success or productivity can make or break the best business concept within moments. The economy is axiologically motivated.

To many people, Theism is pointless. It appears to be limited to the world of superstition and theories. Many yearn to know, "What is the point of this debate?" Religion doesn't seem to have an impact upon our daily lives. Heaven is about a theoretical world, removed light years from reality.

When we look at the word of God from a different angle, we find something astounding. Scripture itself claims to be axiological in nature. Deut 6:24 reads, "And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always..." In other words, God never gave us His principles to test us. His guidelines is an expression of love through which He yearns to reach out and touch the hearts of mankind. Scripture is a love story. Through it you can find the face of a God who yearns to walk with you today. In Him is a depth of care and compassion that transcends the barriers of time and space and lies the foundation for heaven itself. It is written, John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

You see, everything He has ever done lives within this context. From the sunset passion to the gentle song of the winter breeze lives a heart yearning to color your world. When looking at His word, search for His heart. He will set you free from the cold and senseless world of theological politics. God can change your life and add the color of the rainbow to your dying dreams. He is the meaning to true life.
