Waiting Upon The Lord

Updated on April 14, 2011

Waiting Upon The LORD

“Wait for the LORD, be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.”

Psalm 27:14

Why does it take great courage to wait upon the LORD?

Seemingly, waiting upon the LORD is such a simple thing to do. But there are times when “waiting upon the LORD” is a life of great faith and involves great courage. There are many areas in the life of a believer wherein may involve waiting upon the LORD .May it be waiting for a job or a life time partner or a financial breakthrough.. A Christian may find himself/herself waiting upon the Lord’s provision for her day to day need. This is the current situation of my friend Alice.

Alice is a missionary teacher in a certain pre-school learning center. This learning center is established as a ministry of their house church in the city of Manila. This learning center is established to provide a quality Christian pre-school education at low cost for their community. This is also one way of reaching out for their neighborhood.

Alice was a graduate of BS in Agricultutal Engineering. Before working in the ministry, she worked as a project engineer in a government agency. As a pre-school missionary teacher, she and her co-workers receive only a minimum wage, they have no salary every summer vacation. Their salary depends upon the payment of the parents of their students. If the parents of their students do not pay, they too will not receive their salary.Their salary is also based upon the number of their enrollees. If they have only few enrollees, they will receive only a minimal salary. Truly it requires a great faith. This closing of the schoolyear, Alice and her co-teachers did not receive their last salary because many parents still were not yet able to pay their balances.

As of today, Alice has no cash in hand to sustain all their meals for this month. She is waiting upon the Lord for provision for her day-to-day meal. There are thoughts playing around her mind to apply for more lucrative jobs in the city. But she is firm and courageous to remain in the ministry because just recently the Lord appeared to her, confirming her calling as a missionary teacher. She is indeed very courageous to wait upon the Lord for her daily sustenance.

Alice situation is not extra-ordinary among many ministry workers in the Lord. Many ministry workers are also confronted each day with a decision whether to remain in the ministry or to give up and look for more profitable secular jobs.

As economic situation worsen in out country, I am also confronted with the decision to work abroad to have greater income, or just to remain in the country. But the Lord is impressng me to remain in the country because of the ministry the Lord entrusted me for the poor people in our community. The Lord entrusted me to teach them and disciple them. I am taking heart to trust the Lord and wait for His provision. I try to be courageous about my future risking my convenience and material prosperity to remain in the center of God’s will. Sometimes it is too costly to remain in the center of the will of God, but as for me, it is still the best way to live, for only in this way you are living in perfect security. For the Lord indeed is the true source of security.
