What Did You "Eat" Today?
What did you have to eat today? Did you eat fast food because it was easy or did you take the time to prepare a meal to eat, chopping and seasoning it just right. Which is easier?
What do you drink in your homes? Does it come out of a bottle or can? I have in my home a water container for the fridge, but you know where it is right now? Sitting on my countertop empty and bone dry. Why? Because it is much "easier" for me to buy bottled water at the store and just throw them away when I am done than to take the extra 2 minutes to fill the water container when it is empty.
What did you eat today spiritually? Was it the fast food version, a bottle of "water" you purchased at the store, or did you take time to prepare the "meal," to really season the "food" and let it simmer for a while so that it could be the best it could.
What have you eaten today spiritually? Was it milk, or did you have some bread and solid food with your milk.
Milk of the Word
1 Peter 2:2 NIV Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,
1 Peter 2:2 NLT You must crave pure spiritual milk so that you can grow into the fullness of your salvation. Cry out for this nourishment as a baby cries for milk,
The command here is for each of us, yesterday today and tomorrow to be crying out for the milk of God's word, the Logos or God's word.
Logo = Christ
The growing here is not something we are actively doing or making happen. It is the reaction that occurs in us as a result of the desire for the milk.
Derived from the word Logos, or the Word, as in Christ. Translated in Rom 12:1-2 as reasonable.
The process of actively longing
Psalms 42:1-2 NLT As the deer pants for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. (2) I thirst for God, the living God. When can I come and stand before him?
1 Corinthians 3:1-2 NIV (1) Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual but as worldly--mere infants in Christ. (2) I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready.
Hebrews 5:11-13 NIV We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain because you are slow to learn. (12) In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God's word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! (13) Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness.
Isaiah 55:1-2 NIV "Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. (2) Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.
Hebrews 5:14 NIV But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.
By Putting away Childish Things
1 Corinthians 13:11 NIV (11) When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.
By Cultivating the Understanding
1 Corinthians 14:20 NIV (20) Brothers, stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be adults.
By Striving after the Christ Ideal
Ephesians 4:11-15 NIV It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, (12) to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up (13) until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. (14) Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. (15) Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.
By Growing up
1 John 2:12-14 NIV I write to you, dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name. (13) I write to you, fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, dear children, because you have known the Father. (14) I write to you, fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one.
- Dear Children
- Sins forgiven because of the name of Jesus
- Known the father
- Who is "father?" God)
- Young Men
- Overcome the evil one
- Word of God lives in them
- Known him who is from the beginning
- Who is "Him"? (Jesus)
- 1 John 1:1-4 NIV That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched--this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. (2) The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. (3) We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. (4) We write this to make our joy complete.
Do you think this is list is only for those groups mentioned or is it a progression?
A Spiritual Meal
What is a spiritually healthy meal? Thy physical body needs the correct balance of nutrition otherwise the body is not as healthy as it can be.
John 6:32-35 NIV Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. (33) For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world." (34) "Sir," they said, "from now on give us this bread." (35) Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.
John 6:46-58 NIV No one has seen the Father except the one who is from God; only he has seen the Father. (47) I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life. (48) I am the bread of life. (49) Your forefathers ate the manna in the desert, yet they died. (50) But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which a man may eat and not die. (51) I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world." (52) Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?" (53) Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. (54) Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. (55) For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. (56) Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. (57) Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. (58) This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your forefathers ate manna and died, but he who feeds on this bread will live forever."
1 Corinthians 11:23-26 NIV (23) For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, (24) and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me." (25) In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me." (26) For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.
Matthew 5:6 NIV Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
1 Corinthians 10:1-4 NIV (1) For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers, that our forefathers were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea. (2) They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. (3) They all ate the same spiritual food (4) and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.
