What is a Prayer Ring?

Updated on October 23, 2009

A prayer ring can be an effective method of bringing your family together, uniting in prayer, and building your relationships with each other. In our world of fast-food, fast-entertainment, fast-gratification culture, it can be easy to forget to take the time to pray, come together, and reflect on the important things in life. A prayer ring can be the perfect remedy, providing you and your family with a visual reminder to take the time for these things, and a means of coming together.

A prayer ring is a piece of art that hangs on your wall. It has a decorative plaque with a removable metal ring attached. Prayer rings come in varying sizes and styles, but these basic components remain the same. You can personalize prayer rings with the names of your family or prayer group, with Bible verses, or with phrases that are meaningful to you.

The size of the ring you have should be proportional to the size of your family. If you have a family of three, for instance, invest in a smaller ring. For larger families, use a larger ring to make sure there is room for everyone.

How do you use a prayer ring?
With your family and loved ones, remove the ring from the plaque. Everyone should form a circle and place both hands on the ring in the center. You can each silently pray or meditate to yourselves, or take turns praying to the group. The prayer ring encourages unity and strengthens faith between you and the people you love.

You can gather with your family at a specified time each day, such as mealtime or before bed. Make sure it is a time that everyone is available and relaxed. Or you can gather spontaneously when you feel the need to pray. If this is your method, be sure to place the prayer ring in a spot in your house that is easily accessible and frequented, such as your kitchen, living room, or entryway. The prayer ring can also be a great conversation piece for guests.

Give a prayer ring as a gift.
Prayer rings make wonderful gifts for Christmases, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries. The prayer ring will strengthen the faith and togetherness of recipients. Being able to personalize the style and message of prayer rings will allow you to customize them for any prayer-based belief system or personality.

I have never heard of the prayer ring before now. I think it is a wonderful idea, and you have inspired me to introduce it to our ministry's prayer group. Thank you for such an enlightening hub.

That is a wonderful idea. I believe it strengthens the family to share prayer.
