Where The TRUTH LIES
The Truth about Lies
What would happen if everyone told the truth? It's actually very "revealing", if you've ever seen the movie “Liar, Liar” with Jim Carrey. In this movie, Carrey plays a father who consistently makes promises to his wife and child, yet continually fails to keep them. When he promised to be home for his son's birthday party and didn't show, his son made a wish that for once, his Dad would only be able to tell the truth! Watch what happens when this little boy’s wish comes TRUE:
Speaking Your MIND
Did anyone see episode 17 of Season 5 of House? It’s called “The Social Contract”. In this episode, a patient suddenly loses his “inhibitions” causing him to speak his MIND, having no control over what he says. He tells only the truth and is desperate to get “fixed” so he can go back to being able to "control his tongue” by not being so honest, in order to keep from driving everyone in his life away. Here’s a glimpse of this episode, as longer videos were not available on Youtube:
The Science of Detecting LIES
How about this one ~ have you seen the television series called “Lie to Me”? It’s shocking to know that every person lies an average of three times every ten minutes! Because lies are so prominent within humanity, authorities go to great lengths to expose liars and lies. Lie Detectors have not been proven to be reliable, but experts in body language have proven consistent behavioral evidence to expose liars and their lies! Here’s a brief clip from “Lie to Me”:
The Sad Truth
It’s obvious that if everyone truly spoke what was on their MINDS, many would be greatly offended! What would this world be like? We’ve learned as a society that lies bring peace and harmony, yet truth brings offense. If you told your boss the truth, would you lose your job? If you told your spouse the truth, would you lose your marriage? If someone told you the truth, would you become angry and end the relationship? The sad truth is people have learned to survive in this world by lying.
As I’ve questioned in other hubs, “What makes a good liar?”; “What makes an excellent liar?” The fact is, the better the liar, the more believable the lie. What about the “father of lies”? Is it even possible to know the difference between truth and his lies? Jesus said even the “elect” of God could be deceived by Satan, if it were possible.
Truly, the truth lies in the heart. The heart reveals the true man. Jesus said in Mat 15:18, “The things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders.” Mark records even more of what Jesus said in Mark 7:21: “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness.”
No matter what comes out of a person’s mouth, God sees the truth. He sees the heart. Jesus said in Mat 12:34, “You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak what is good? For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart.” Is this truth offensive? Should He lie to you? God cannot lie!
Did you notice that what comes out of the heart naturally breaks the 10 Commandments given by God? Do you know WHY God gave the 10 Commandments? Did He think people could actually keep them? Maybe they could, as a matter of self-discipline, but not so much in the heart! He gave them to convict the world of sin. To help us realize we are in need of a Savior! This is why He went so far as to say in Mat 5:27-28, “You have heard that it was said, 'YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY'; but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
Deception of the Heart
Can people LIE to themselves and to God? Jesus said in Mat 15:8, “These people honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me.”
In James 1:26 we are told, “If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is worthless.” Does this mean we are to lie? Absolutely not! We should let our mouths speak what comes from our heart, in truth and in love.
How is that possible? There is no way for man to change his heart. Only God can do this, and it’s through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. We obtain that faith by hearing and reading His Word. Have you ever trusted just in what somebody said to you? Or do you feel more secure if they put it in writing? Well, God put His Word in writing! Unlike a father who does not keep his word, He is our Father who keeps His Word!
We need to be filled with truth in order to walk in truth. Jesus said in John 14:16-17, “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.” Because the Spirit of truth now dwells in us, we won’t fear speaking the truth because the truth we speak will give life to the hearer.
The Apostle Paul said in Galatians 4:16, “So have I become your enemy by telling you the truth?” If you feel offended by the Word of God, you should know there is a problem.
Who Can Change Hearts and Minds?
Jesus creates in us a clean heart. This happens through putting our faith in Him, bringing a transformation of the MIND.
Psalm 51:10: “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
Acts 15:9: “…cleansing their hearts by faith.”
Romans 12:2: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your MIND.”
Yes, believers will still struggle with sin, but to acknowledge the truth, that we are sinful, is to say the Law is good! Instead of being convicted and sentenced, we are convicted and acquitted in Jesus’ Name!
Romans 7:16-17: “But if I do the very thing I do not want to do, I agree with the Law, confessing that the Law is good. So now, no longer am I the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me.”
Romans 7:21-Romans 8:1: “I find then the principle that evil is present in me, the one who wants to do good. For I joyfully concur with the Law of God in the inner man, but I see a different law in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my MIND and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my MIND am serving the Law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin. Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
Set FREE!
How do people get set free? As it is with AA and NA, even Alanon, people must get honest with themselves and others. Admit we have a problem; for in doing so, we begin the freedom process! Has your child ever lied to you? How do you feel when your child admits his/her wrong-doing and confesses the truth to you? You most likely will have mercy upon your child and be glad they are becoming a person of respectable character. Likewise, our Father in heaven desires that we confess our sins to Him.
Romans 10:10: “For with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
1 John 1:9 states, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Do you trust Man? Do you trust Truth? Receive and walk in the Truth today! Jesus said in John 14:6, “I Am the Way, the Truth and the Life!”
John 8:32 “You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."
John 8:36 “So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed!”
If you don’t know Jesus today, but are feeling drawn to the Truth, I invite you to read my hub Come to JESUS: Salvation. He wants to set you free, from the inside out! And THAT’S THE TRUTH!
