Will The Real Messiah Please Stand Up!

© 2012 VVeasey Publishing

That’s a good question…and the answer may not be as simple as some of you have been lead to believe.

The following quotes are from the Judaism 101 website

“The term “mashiach” (English Messiah) literally means “the anointed one” and refers to the ancient practice of anointing kings with oil when they took the throne. The mashiach is the one who will be anointed as king in the end of days.

“The word “mashiach” does not mean “savior”. The notion of an innocent, divine or semi-divine being who will sacrifice himself to save us form the consequences of our own sins is a purely Christian concept that has no basis in Jewish thought. Unfortunately, this Christian concept has become so deeply ingrained in the English word “messiah” that this English word can no longer be used to refer to the Jewish concept”. End quote

These are some the characteristics of the Jewish Messiah

“The mashiach will be a great political leader descended from King David (Jeremiah 23:5)

The mashiach is often referred to as "mashiach ben David" (mashiach, son of David).

He will be a charismatic leader, inspiring others to follow his example.

He will be a great military leader, who will win battles for Israel.

“He will be a great judge, who makes righteous decisions (Jeremiah 33:15).

But above all, he will be a human being, not a god, demi-god or other supernatural being”.

Jesus Denies Being David's Son

If the coming Messiah is supposed to be a descendant of King David, Jesus is definitely not that Messiah, because he denies that he’s a descendant of King David.

And he said unto them, How say they that Christ is David’s son? 20:42 And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, 20:43 Till I make thine enemies thy footstool. 20:44 David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his son?” “Luke 20:41-44

If Jesus disputes that he’s a descendant of King David, the whole "Jesus is the Messiah" house of cards comes tumbling down.

There were those during the time Jesus lived who doubted he was the Messiah or a descendant of King David "Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?" Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was. So there was a division among the people because of him."(John 7:41- 43 King James Version)

They doubted that he could be a descendant of king David as Jesus himself denies he is. They even doubted that he was from Bethlehem were he was supposedly born according to the Christian story.

So the "Jesus is the Messiah" house of card not only comes tumbling down... it's destroyed!

So something is definitely wrong here wouldn't you agree?

All Of The Kings Of Israel Were Messiahs

But here's the thing...All of the kings of Israel were Messiahs.

During their coronation their heads were anointed with oil (had oil poured over their heads) by the high priest, to signify that they were the anointed of God and chosen by God to be king..

The Messiah was to be a warrior King, like King David, not a holy man or a god in the flesh who would die for everyone’s sins. That’s why, when Jesus was crucified, (if this ever really happened), he was mocked as being the King Of Jews.

But a Messiah didn’t have to be Jewish or a Israelite. He could be anyone that God chooses.

The Persian King, Cyrus The Great, was called the Messiah by Isaiah, because he freed the Jews from captivity in Babylon and allowed them to return to the “promised land” of Canaan.. “Thus saith the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will lose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut”. (Isaiah 45:1)

So the Messiah is to be a warrior King, like King David, and definitely like King Cyrus.

Jesus denies that he is a descendant of King David, and he’s wasn't a warrior king or a king at all. So how can he be the prophesied Jewish Messiah?

The Bible Was Rewritten?

In the fourth century CE, Pope Damasus commissioned the so-called saint,Jerome, to rewrite the existing Bible documents, to prove that their new God in flesh, Jesus was the Messiah prophesied by Isaiah.

"But while he (Joseph) thought on these things, behold, the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us'". Matt 1:20-23

But they made a mistake, because Joseph (if this every really happen) was told by an angel of the Lord, in Matthew to name his son Jesus, but Isaiah, which Christians use to prove that Jesus is the prophesied Messiah, said the boy child’s name shall be Emmanuel, meaning God with us.

Jesus in Hebrew is Yeshua meaning, God saves not God with us.So how can this prophecy be referring Jesus? How can he be the prophesied Messiah?

I don't think that it is referring to Jesus. That's why the Jews don't accept Jesus as the Messiah, and are still waiting for their Messiah to come.

Signs That Will Appear When The Messiah Returns

These are some of the signs that are supposed to appear when the Messiah is about to returned according to the Jewish scriptures.

Let see have any of them have occurred.

1.The Jewish people will experience eternal joy and gladness (Isaiah 51:11) Nope hasn't happened

2.All of the dead will rise again (Isaiah 26:19) Definitely Nadda

3. Leaders of other nations will look to the Messiah for guidance. (Isaiah 2:4) Nope

4.The Knowledge of the God of Israel will fill the world (Isaiah 11:9) Nadda

5.Everyone will worship the God of Israel (Isaiah 2:17) Nope

6. the Israelites will returned to their homeland (Isaiah 11:12) Nadda

7. Hunger, illness and death will cease to exist (Isaiah 25:8) Hell Nadda

So who is the real Messiah, Jesus or the one expected to come?

This confusion between the Jewish idea of the Messiah and the Christian's idea of the Messiah (this includes baptists and others Christians who inherited this idea of the Messiah or savior from the Romans Christians) came about when the Roman Christians mistook or more likely changed, Chrestos, the Gnostic Christian's word for the savior to, Christos, their word for the savior.

To the Gnostic Christians, Jesus was,Jesus Chrest (Chrestos, Greek, for the good) rather than Jesus Christ, (Christos, Greek for the Hebrew, Messiah, meaning the anointed)

So will the real Messiah please stand-up! Or as John the Baptist sent his followers to ask Jesus, “Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for another?” (Matthew 11:3 New American Standard Bible)

I think the Jews are rightly looking for another.
