Why Do We Have to Have it OUR way?
To Be Right or To Be Happy
One of the most puzzling things about humans is our preference for being right in our opinions over being happy in our daily lives. And, having to be right is, literally, the thing keeping us from being happy. I have never met anyone who said they did not want to be happy. So if happiness is important in a person's life why is it we leverage our lives with the will to be right over the will to be happy?
It is best if I speak for myself and not try to suppose I know why you want to be right. So, here goes. I consider my strong leanings towards all things political and how I feel compelled to stand for certain qualities because they are important to me. What I find, though, is how exhausting it is. Right now, my gut tells me our country is going in a direction where everyone gets a little or a lot meaner. It feels like we don't care about each other anymore. It looks and feels like a country who cares only about possessions and has no common decency. It is becoming a country where people are satisfied to let everyone with a grudge take out a few more of us. We seem to relish the idea of sending a death drone to kill part of the leadership of a sovereign country. It is now common to hear people called by petty, despicable names by our president; think about that, by our president.
So, the point is, I feel compelled to fight that direction. I am not willing to give up kindness and generosity so that greed can destroy America and the world. I have to care for my well-being though too. It is very stressful seeing the actions of people who supposedly work for us lead us in a more hateful, fearful direction, one that favors less joy in each day, and certainly less happiness all around.
First of all, please vote in elections. When you vote please consider the world you want to live in. Is it one filled with violence and hatefulness, or is it one where those we elect help us create a world where happiness is even possible.
Blessings,
Lela
