Wield Your Weaponry of Warfare: Words

Updated on January 31, 2013

Wielding Words as a Weapon: The Sword of the Spirit – Ephesians 6:17 “Take the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.” The Word wielded properly gains us victory … wielded improperly we are defeated.

Wielding Words Improperly - Speaking words that don't align with what God has said.

Ephesians 4:29 “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”

King James Version says, “ Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.”

The enemy utilizes corrupt communication in order to operate in a position of power,or to gain trust for personal gain so that we will operate in a depraved, contaminated, tainted, rotten, putrid, decomposing, and eroding behavior or in this case words. Corrupt communication … words spoken out of your own mouth used as a weapon of destruction by the enemy of our souls to erode away at your spirit creating a spiritual atmosphere of defeat.

Who are your words benefiting? The enemy … Or should I say … who are your words wounding? You or someone you proclaim to love. What if anything are your words accomplishing both in the natural and in the spirit realm … destruction or victory?

Who is listening to the words that are coming out of your mouth? (Go back to Ephesians.) And those who listen includes you (your spirit), the enemy who listens to hear if what you are saying gives him an opening to bring destruction into your life and the Lord who moves on your behalf to bring forth victory. By speaking death and destruction then you are aligning the words of your mouth with the plan of the enemy and when he hears … he sends forth his demons and cohorts based upon the words that you have spoken forth out of your mouth.

Proverbs 18:21 “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” What fruit are you eating … ripe, delicious, healthy fruit or bruised, diseased, rotten and infested fruit?

Matthew 12:37 “For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Pay attention and heed the words of your own mouth … for they have power to either bring you and those you love to a place of death and destruction or deliverance and abundance.

Your words can become the opening of a prison of your own making if you wield them inappropriately or for the wrong purpose. Making a promise that you are unable or unwilling to keep is one way that your words can entrap you.

Proverbs 6:2 “You are snared with the words of your mouth, you are taken with the words of your mouth.”

Wielding Words Properly – Aligning the words of your mouth with the words that God has spoken forth.

Psalm 19:14 “May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”

What is in your heart? You say what you believe and you believe that which you have been meditating on … so if you are meditating on death … that is what will come out of your mouth and that is what you will receive. If you are meditating on life and the promises of His Word then that is what you will believe and that is what will come out of your mouth … and you will have life in abundance. The manifestation is directly tied to your heart and what you believe in your heart.

Wielding words properly we must change the words that are hidden in our heart. Psalm 119:11 “ I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” What is stored in your heart? Are you replacing that rotten, diseased, infested word of the enemy with the Truth?

Are you sending forth words that align with God's word that it would produce good fruit and a prosperous harvest? Are the words of your mouth successful and accomplishing that for which they are sent? Are your prayers being answered? Are your words strengthening your ministering angels to go forth into battle on your behalf or are they hamstringing them so that they can do no good thing for you?

Are you like Daniel … Gabriel said to him … “Daniel, I have come to give you insight and understanding. The moment you began praying, a command was given. And now I am here to tell you what it was, for you are very precious to God ...”

There are two incredible books although fiction that give a very accurate accounting of how our words have power and are one of our most effective tools of spiritual warfare. If you want to find out more try reading “This Present Darkness” and “Piercing the Darkness” by Frank Peretti. Both books speak to the power that our prayers hold and how they can turn a situation around. The books are an enjoyable avenue if you like to read that will teach you about spiritual warfare.

Isaiah 55:11 “It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.”

New American Translation says “So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.”

I am going to leave you with two very important tools in wielding your words as weapons …

First … Pray before you say … what does that mean? Ask the Holy Spirit to give you the words to speak both in the natural and in the spirit so that the words you speak would bring forth good fruit.

Nehemiah set this example for us when he approached the King … He had been fasting and praying for his people. Nehemiah 2:4-5 “ The king said to me, “What is it you want?” Then I prayed to the God of heaven, and I answered the king, “If it pleases the king and if your servant has found favor in his sight, let him send me to the city in Judah where my fathers are buried so that I can rebuild it.”

Second … Believe … just believe

Mark 11:23 “I tell you the truth, if anyone says to the mountain, “Go, throw yourself into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.”

New Living Translation says, “... But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart.”

Matthew 21:22 “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”

2 Corinthians 6:7 “ We faithfully preach the truth. God's power is working in us. We use the weapons of righteousness in the right hand for attack and the left for defense.”

2 Corinthians 10:4 “ We use God's mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments.”

Hebrews 4:12 “ For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

We must wield the weapon of words well in order to gain victory in every area of our lives … align your heart with the words of God's heart and His heart will be open to you.

Saints of God … Wield Your Weapon of Words Well and Live Victoriously!
