Wisdom is Crying Out - What is She Saying?
Babies and children cry, and when they do you know about it!
Have you ever been in a store when a baby cried? You stop what you're doing and you take notice.
Why? Because they got your attention!
Wisdom is crying out for our attention! Do we hear her?
What happens sometimes in life is we block out Wisdom's Cry and then wonder; "What happened?" When we find ourself in a mess.
Proverbs chapter 8, has some great wisdom we can glean from. Let's take the journey through it.
Chapter 8 verse 1 says; "Does not wisdom cry out, and understanding lift up her voice? (These are taken from the NKJV)
She takes her stand on the top of the high hill, beside the way, where the paths meet.
She cries out by the gates at the entry of the city.
To you, o men, I call, and my voice is to the sons of men."
It really sounds like wisdom is all over the world and everywhere we live and wisdom is speaking to us.
In verse 6, it says, "I will speak of excellent things..."
In verse 8-9, it says, "All the words of my mouth are righteousenss; nothing crooked or perverse is in them. They are all plain to him who understands..."
When we purpose in our hearts to seek out wisdom, we will find it. It will be PLAIN to us. We won't have to wonder what is being said.
In verse 10-11, we are told to to recieve his instruction rather than silver and choice gold. It says that "wisdom is BETTER than rubies and ALL THE THINGS one may desire cannot be compared to her."
In another chapter, we are told that the "Fear of the Lord' is the beginning of wisdom/knowledge. In verse 13 of chapter 8, it says "The fear of the Lord is to hate evil". In other words, love what God loves and hate what God hates. It's easy to find out what He hates and what He loves. The Bible is filled with His desires and what He hates. Read Proverbs 6 and He tells us six things that He hates. Check it out for yourself.
"Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom. I am understanding. I have strength. By me Kings reign, and rulers decree justice." Verse 15 is telling us that leaders must have wisdom, God's wisdom to rule fairly.
I seek to be a wise leader for our children and grandchildren. I desire to provide wise counsel to our church members. I want to make just decisions and the only way I can do that is to seek after wisdom, hear her cry and act upon what She says.
The Lord tells us in verse 17, "I love those who love me and those who seek me DILIGENTLY will FIND ME" (emphasis is mine). The reason I emphasied diligently and find me is because it does take some work to read and seek for wisdom. For some reason God wants us to be in a continual pursuit of Him and His word.
The benefits of diligently seeking are laid out for us in verse 18 - 21.
He tells us that "His fruit is better than gold...and his revenue than choice silver." Verse 21 says, "That I may cause those who love me to INHERIT WEALTH, that I may FILL THEIR TREASURIES."
Wow, I don't know about you but that's a powerful promise! Here's a note I wrote in my book as I am reading and studying Proverbs:
"We must have wisdom first before acquiring gold or silver which represents money, because otherwise it will be empty. We won't know how to handle finances and we won't feel worthy of aquiring them and so we won't keep what we get. Get wisdom and you'll get the rest. Wisdom is crying out - are we listening?
Something to ponder...
Until next time...
