WHAT SHOULD I DO WITH MY LIFE?
What am I going to be when I grow up?
Ever wonder what path you are suppose to take for your life?
I know I have. I used to be really confused when it came to what I should do with my life.
I was in my thirties and still asking, "What do I want to be when I grow up?". Even though I was already a pastor, wife, mother, business woman, I still had questions on what I should do. How about you?
I'm turning "50" in April and I finally feel like I know what I'm suppose to do. That doesn't mean I know exactly how it's going to look, but I have a direction. How did I get that revelation?
My turn-around was when I started to say "The Lord directs my steps", instead of always saying "I don't know what I'm suppose to do".
I found the Scripture in Proverbs 3:5 that says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding, v-6 In all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your paths."
After reading it I realized either what the Lord was saying was TRUE and I could believe it or I could choose to not believe it. If I chose to believe it then what would I say? My conclusion was I would say, "The Lord directs my steps"!
Since that time I have been doing a study on the book of Proverbs. I have been digging for wisdom and guess what I'm finding? Lots and lots of verses on how the Lord will direct our path, how our foot shall not slip, our path will be bright and get brighter and lots more!
Here some great promises from Proverbs; if we seek after God's wisdom the Lord tell
us in chapter 2, "if we will receive His words"... He will "guard" our path (verse 1 & 8)
He said He we would "understand...every good path". (verse 9) This to me means that we'll see opportunity and be able to partake of it!
In verse 20, the promise is that we will "walk in the way of goodness." we will have...."paths of righteousness."
"Her ways (Wisdom) are ways of pleasantness and all her paths are peace." (verse 17)
If you're like me, I enjoy peace, and love to pleasantness! I me want to seek for more wisdom!
Verse 26 says that "He will keep our foot from being caught." Isn't that a wonderful promise. We don't have to worry as we walk down the paths of life that our foot will be caught in a trap. As a child I remember my brothers catching wild animals in a traps and it wasn't a pleasant sight. Especially when they were still alive and screaming!
"I have taught you in the way of wisdom, I have led you in the right paths." Proverbs 4:11. The Lord will "led us in the RIGHT PATH!" What a great promise.
Verse 12 "When you walk your step will not be hindered and when you run you will not stumble."
v-19 "The path of the just is like the shining sun, that shines brighter unto the perfect day. When our paths are bright, it's easy to see and follow. That means we will have clarity of purpose and be able to walk with confidence. It gets better all the time.
Now, at almost "50", I choose to believe that these are truths for my life. You can choose them for your life if you want too! He said "Ask for wisdom and he would give it to us liberally!" (See James)
This doesn't mean I don't have my moments when I get into my head and try and figure God out! That's why He told me in Proverbs 3:5 "...lean not to your own understanding." I like to be in control, and this doesn't always compute --- that's why the Lord has told us to "live by faith". That's another study for another time.
Something to ponder...
Until next time...
