Does Dr. Henry Morgentaler Deserve the Order of Canada?
Does Dr. Henry Morgentaler deserve the Order of Canada? We shall look at the theory of life and abortion before we decide the outcome. Those who are against abortion are probably conservative Christians who believe in creation and those who believe in Dr. Morgentaler's stance believe that a woman has the right to choose for herself whether she has an abortion or not.
Creation and Evolution
There are two different theories about the origin of life. One theory is creation and the other is evolution. According to evolutionism, man has evolved from beasts through time, chance and natural selection. However, those who believe in creation is confirmed in the first book of Genesis.
In the beginning God created heaven and earth and on the sixth day, "God created man in his own image, in the image God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it:" (Genesis 1:27-28).
To replenish means "to fill up again; to fill completely; to stock abundantly; to occupy completely."
"And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul" (Genesis 2:7).
There is no doubt that man and woman are created by the Lord God. It is He who gives life to the human race and it is the Lord who takes away life. God is our divine Giver of life.
Genesis 17:16 states: "And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarah thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be. (16) And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her."
HEALTHY BABY WALMSLEY
Because his mother chose life, we see Baby Walmsley smiling his winsome smile. Praise the Lord and thank God for such loving mothers who choose life for their children and not abortion.
LENGTH OF DAYS
If a man wants to live long on the earth he must not forget to keep the command- ments of God. It is written in Proverbs 3:1-2: "My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments. For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee."
Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord giveth thee (Exodus 20:12).
A Psalm of David (Psa. 21:4)
David asked the Lord to give his life and the Lord gave him what he asked for. "He asked life of thee, and thou gavest it him, even length of days for ever and ever."
The termination of a pregnancy by removing or expelling a fetus from the uterus, resulting in or caused by death is called an abortion. Sometimes, a spontaneous abortion called miscarriage can occur. It is not induced by human effort.
According to the Republicans, abortion is considered as murder whereas the Democrats deem it to be human rights. What do Christians think about the question? The sixth Commandments is "Thou shalt not kill" (Exodus 20:13). Terminating by any means or inducing the cessation of life is murder. The Democrats do not consider abortion as murder because they argue that a fetus or embryo is not a human being in the real sense. The fetus must complete his or her full term and be born to be considered a human being. Once the baby is born, and is killed, then it can be considered "murder". Is this concept biblical?
BIBLICAL CONCEPT OF LIFE
Biblically, life is divided into three sections
(1) Literally, animate existence, as distinguished from dead matter (Gen. 1:20). (2) Conscious existence with the powers derived from it (Job 3:20). (3) The existence of the soul after the death of the body (John 5:29). (Cruden's Complete Concordance)
"And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, ... and every living creaure that moveth ...).
The above verse shows that the moving creature has life. It is not static but has movement. The fetus in an unborn child is not static but constantly maturing from an embryo into a complete baby with all parts of the body intact.

DR. HENRY MORGENTALER
Dr. Henry Morgentaler, 85, a controversial abortion rights activist is best known for the successful striking down by the Supreme Court the law of abortion about 20 years ago. He was born in Lodz, Poland, survived the Holocaust, came to Canada, and completed his medical studies in the University of Montreal, Canada (1953).
Dr. Morgentaler presented a brief on behalf of the Humanist Fellowship of Montreal to the House of Common's Health and Welfare Committee, recommending that the abortion law be repealed. On January 28, 1988, the Supreme Court of Canada struck down the abortion law of Canada.
Over 110,000 abortions were performed in Canada every year according to Wikipedia. This represents a ratio of about 30 abortions to every 100 live births.
In other words, this means over 110,000 women consented to the abortions. It is that yearly, so many wormen resort to abort their fetuses.
Henry Morgentaler was awarded the Order of Canada (Canada Nobel prize) on October 10, 2008 in Quebec City as part of its 400th anniversary celebrations.
There have been more than 40 million abortions in the twenty six years since the U.S. Supreme Court legalized unrestricted abortion on January 22, 1973.
Canada - Population: 33,390,141 (July 2007 est.)
According to the estimated population of Canada which is 33,390,141, the 40 million abortions in the United States exceed the population of Canada. Since abortion is legal, the government of Canada has the legal right to award Dr. Morgentaler with the Order of Canada even though many Christians may object to it.
According to the theory of the conservatives, Dr. Morgentaler does not deserve the honor of receiving the Order of Canada. He was in favour of abortion and killed many lives. This in accordance with religious belief for killing in any form is sin in the sight of God.
However, those who favour abortion praised him for it made life easier for girls or women who would favour abortion and that having undesirable babies would make life more miserable. The woman has control over her body and should decide whether she should keep the baby or abort him or her.. This is also sanctioned by the law of the country.
