Get to Know Your Wife, Husband, Lover, or Yourself Through Astrological Signs
What's your sign...
Those words conjure up images of bell bottoms, Afros, gold chains, and discotheques - and unfortunately have nothing to do with the study of astrological signs. For years the study of astrology has been looked at as merely a frivolous pastime, with no standing in the scientific community. I'm sure that many astrologers would dispute this, as the computations of a natal chart for the exact date, time and minute of your birth are drawn up by competent professionals and based on complex, mathematical equations, calculated to the exact degree of each of the planets movements.
This should not be confused with the horoscopes that you read with your morning cup of coffee. And while they can be uncannily accurate more often than they miss, they are far from infallible. However, you shouldn't believe the common accusation that these predictions are generalized phrases that can be made to fit everyone.
Doubtless, one day, you might decide to take a walk on the wild side, and have your natal chart drawn up - but until then, you can learn a lot about yourself and others by simply studying your Sun sign.
Let the sun shine...
So what is a Sun sign? A Sun sign is a particular place in the zodiac - Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, etc. - that the Sun was in at the moment of your birth. The Sun is the most powerful of all the stellar bodies in our solar system, and affects the personality so strongly that an incredibly accurate description of a person can be given based simply on its position at the time you were born.
A person's Sun sign can be upwards of eighty percent or even ninety percent accurate. The dates that begin and end the Sun sign sections are approximate, and are called the 'cusps'. However if the Sun was in Taurus when you were born, it was in Taurus, no matter how close to the cusp you are. The influences of either the preceding or following sign will colour your personality - but will never influence you to the point that you will turn into an Aries or a Gemini.
The twelve signs of the Zodiac
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the signs of the Zodiac, I am including them here with their start and end dates.
Remember, these are approximations only, and can differ from astrologer to astrologer, however, they will only differentiate by one day either way.
The starting point of the Zodiac is
Aries - March 21st - April 20th.
Taurus - April 21st - May 21st
Gemini - May 22nd - June 21st
Cancer - June 22nd - July 23rd
Leo - July 24th - August 23rd
Virgo - August 24th - September 23rd
Libra - September 24th - October 23rd
Scorpio - October 24th - November 22nd
Sagittarius - November 23rd - December 21st
Capricorn - December 22nd - January 20th
Aquarius - January 21st - February 19th
and the end of the Zodiac -
Pisces - February 20th - March 20th
If your birthday falls on the cusp, then you will need your exact time of birth and birthplace (longitude and latitude if possible) to determine the Sun's position in the Zodiac.
Of course, you can read both Sun signs closest to your birthday and see which one describes you the best.
My mother's birthday was October 23rd - Libra to some astrologers, Scorpio to others - however, she was a Libra through and through - just try getting her to make a decision about which drapes to choose - it was truly a painful experience!
The full meal deal...
Now you could go whole hog and figure out your ascendant and Moon sign - the two most important positions in your natal chart after the Sun sign. The ascendant forms your true inner nature - for example, if your ascendant is Aquarius, you might have strong Aquarian leanings and wonder why the descriptions of your Sun sign don't match or reveal your idiosyncrasies and secret longings.
You will find that the Sun sign and ascendant blend together and make up your personality to an astonishing degree, and a third blending of your Moon sign will give even a more complete picture. (These can be obtained on the phone from any astrologer.)
If you really want the full meal deal, you will need to consider all the houses of the Zodiac (gets a tad complicated now...) There are twelve houses, one for each sign of the Zodiac, and the position of the planets in these signs or houses, are carefully calculated and interpreted - each sign's influences on these houses, consideration of the planets etc. The blending of all the information, analyzing your character, potential, indications of past and future mistakes and possibilities is called the art of synthesis in astrology, and is what takes the time, effort, knowledge and talent of the astrologer.
However, not everyone is interested in such an in-depth study of themselves...for most, the Sun sign gives enough information and insight to understand and make us more tolerant of one another.
If you are one of the reserved readers, or even downright skeptical - why don't you read up a bit on your's or a friend's Sun sign - just to put it to the test...
I will be posting all of the Zodiac's Sun signs, beginning with Aries, and ending with Pisces (pronounced Pie sees) and I invite you to see how accurate they are. No one can hide his or her Sun sign from you if you keep you eyes and ears open - even your pet will show Sun sign traits...don't move a Virgo cat's food dish to a strange spot and never try to ignore a Leo dog!
Practice with famous people, comic book or cartoon characters - even fictional heroes - it sharpens your wits, and its fun - what have you got to lose?
