Practice What You Preach

Practice What You Preach

My message is on Practice What You Preach: In other words saying one thing and doing another.

If we claim to have Christ as Lord of our life, if we claim to follow Jesus, if we claim we are a "Christian" we should be asking our self what our life preaches.

Is it consistent with the Word of God? Is it consistent period, or do we have one face for one person and another face for another. Do we present a face period?

Romans 2:21-23 -21

21 You, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal?

22 You who say that people should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?

23 You who brag about the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? Scripture should always be preached but how much more effective will it be if we are living it out as we preach it?

When I was a single parent in my younger days I use to see this guy who was around my age. He looked very pious and was always in prayer. I really had good intentions when I decided to get to know this guy. I thought to myself "this guy must really love the Lord he is always in prayer.

But little did I know that once I decided to open that door and get to know this person. His true colors came out, he was more interested in hooking up than being a friend.

I soon shut that door because that is not what I had in mind. All I wanted was a friend who loved the Lord like I did. I wasn't interested in hooking up at least not in that way. This guy showed me another face not like the one I saw in church. He sure changed that pious look thinking that he can have a chance. I wasn't interested.

God Does It Through Us - And For Us

We cannot do anything unless God does it through us, and if God does it through us and we live it, then it is scripture come alive. Scripture that is alive is easy to preach.

Matthew 23:5 But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the borders of their garments.

Am I practicing what I preach or claiming to live my life according to the Word of God without the heart and deeds that follow? Jesus warns the crowds AND his followers about those who do not practice what they preach.

Matthew 23:13 "But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.

Lovely pendants - Beautiful gift or just for ourselves something to cherish always

Sometimes I just don't know what to get a relative or a close family member or even a boyfriend or girlfriend. I got my boyfriend a cross pendant for Christmas, something that reminds him of our faith and the love and respect I have for him. My daughter received one from her brother for her birthday and she holds it in high value because she actually keeps it on. Unlike her other necklaces. They are very beautiful and a constant reminder to what the our Lord Jesus did for us.

My Job - Mexican Restaurant

At a job where I used to work at. I dealt with all kinds of people sometimes, it is hard to be a light and a good example especially this day and age where anything goes and is accepted.

I was told by two men playing around mind you; that I was going to keep the money something like that anyway, since I deal with all the cash etc. My response was to say and in all sincerity " No I don't do those things I am a Christian" You know what they said?

They said; "those are the worse kinds" and laughed. Can you imagine that we are thought of to being the worse?

My God help us! We haven't been a good example to the world because most of us don't practice what we preach. How very sad that people see us in that way and how does that bring glory and honor to God?

Parents we can't teach our children the Word of God and expect them to apply it to their lives just because we say so. Remember Abraham, the father of faith, God chose

him because he believed God, obeyed God, and God knew he would teach Isaac and Jacob to do the same.

Give God First Place - In Your Life

James 1:22-25

22-Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

23-Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror

24-and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

25-But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it-he will be blessed in what he does.

None of us will be perfect but if we put God's Word to use and give Him first place in every area of our lives He will sustain us.

Yes we will make mistakes, but if we continue to Keep our eyes on Jesus and not the issues of life, we will continue to overcome as the scripture teaches.

Practice what we preach in other words lead by being an example. If they see us preaching one thing and doing another, they will have less faith in God and more confidence in man and the world.

Do you practice what you preach or do you preach what you practice?

Prayer

Father help us to be a good example so that others will believe and not think of us as being the worse. Forgive us for that Lord may we bring you glory and honor and win others to Christ by the way we live. In Jesus name I pray. Amen!

Practice What You Preach

Prayer songs

Did you know that when we sing to the Lord it is like praying? These songs are prayer songs, you may find them to be uplifting. A good way of praising the Lord and praying at the same time.

christian DVD - Faith motivation

Here are some dvd's that are very inspirational. There are a lot of ways to make your faith stronger. Fellowship, read your bible and in additiong motivational books that help inspire and entertainment some based on true stories. These are some that I found on amazon that I thought might be good for that purpose and to enjoy.

Joel Osteen - Famous for his teachings

I have read Joel Osteen's book and it is so enlightening it actually helps you to have a better perspective on life. I do believe that the Lord has used him as an instrument to give others hope and to build their faith up. If you haven't read any of his books I highly recommend that you do or pass it on to a loved one. That is what my son did for me.

Oh, I love your words! I see so much strength in your love of God and in following His words. They are so true, to love God is to worship Him, Praise Him, and Live for Him only. You can't have two masters! Maybe you would like my spiritual lenses, The Wonders of God, and a few more. Everything I write, I try to do it as you say, with what is true to my heart, not yielding to others. Sometimes it takes strong Christians' words to keep us solid and in the faith walk. My faith does not waver at this point in life; I'm solid as a rock in my beliefs! He has brought me through an unfitted marriage. God picked up the pieces and promised a better place for me. And it became just as He promised. It's been 27 years, my children from that marriage are grown and have wonderful lives and I have been remarried for 25 years this year, and we have a daughter together. I am so blessed to tell my story and hearing yours is a blessing, too. Thank you for sharing! I look forward to reading more of your lenses and I loved the music! SquidAngel blessed! B : )

Lovely lens with lovely words expressed...you can hear your Love for Christ...when you have the Holy Spirit live within you, you want to practice what you preach...God gave you a special gift in your unique way of expressing and sharing that gift with others is wonderful.

Your statement about your friend...unfortunatly, I've seen this happen more then once. And often...it happens by us in leadership. The man's comment that "those are the worst kinds", it is how a lot of people feel-even how many Christians feel. Or that at times church is basically a lame social club where there is a real divide between class status. I'm not wishing to complain about fellow believers but simply put, that is not good-for individual people or the Church. But something good about that is, though there is hypocrasy, there are also sincere people and they tend to shine out for that very reason even though they are imperfect. We are sinners saved by Grace, but we also define ourselves by the Biblical confession of faith that "Jesus is Lord", and I think sometimes we need to stop and take stock of our lives to see how we live out that confession. It is healthy for our own spiritual welbeing, and also for the Church as a whole.

@anonymous: I am glad that you are being honest my brother in you're reply, I do prefer honesty. I suppose not really being out there in the world that much until I had to go out and work. I was taking back by all the hypocrisy that is out there and being naive to say the least I found that not everyone is who they say they are. Thank you and God bless you.

Hi. Yes its very true that there are many people who today only preach or show that they are "better Christians" but we should not be distracted by their behaviour . We should keep our eyes focussed on Jesus thats what I believe with my whole heart. At times its tough I know but then if we keep our eyes on Jesus on the cross everything looks different. All we need to do then is to pray for others so that we become true Christians in His eyes. God Bless You for this wonderful sharing and Thank you for your prayers .
