Faith Moments Today February

Updated on August 17, 2014

Loving Others God's Way

In continuing our study through the Bible with the Faith Moments Today Devotional, this month we will take a look at four main things that reflect the love of God, and our love toward Him.

Week 1: Have you ever looked at something and just from that sign you could tell something was about to happen?  The Bible talks about a coming day when no more signs will be given because of unbelief.

Week 2: Couples from around the world often set their wedding date for Valentine’s Day, because it is recognized as a day to celebrate love.  In week 2 we will look at the Biblical answer to what love should be between a man and a wife.

Week 3: Every country needs prayer warriors regardless of who is in charge.  With the principalities of darkness coming against us, we need to be mindful of how we are praying for our leaders.  Our third week devotional in February discusses our responsibility in prayer, and how God moves on the hearts of leaders.

Week 4: In the past 50 years believing in Jesus has grown, but the attendance in church going has consistently declined.  How can we justify that, and what should be done to rectify the situation so that we are obedient to the Word of God?

What are the signs of the times?

Scripture Reading: Matthew 16:4

"A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall be no sign given unto it ..." (Matthew 16:4).

Each February 2nd, America watches a small gathering of people in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania as they seek a sign from a groundhog concerning the weather for the next six weeks. With all the TV lights around him it is no wonder "Phil" sees his shadow and runs back inside.

The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus seeking a sign from heaven. They were testing Jesus to see if He was who He said He was. What other signs could He give them? He had already caused the lame to walk and the blind to see. And these leaders had seen those that were healed with their own eyes! Still that wasn't enough proof for them.

The world today has the same mindset. "Show us a sign and we will believe". Yet signs of the times abound all around us (Matthew 24) and the world still doesn't believe.

What will it take for a sinful world to repent? Is there hope for those who will be left behind after the rapture of the Church? What other signs have taken place that man has missed?  Make a list of them and discuss how they line up with what God said would take place in the last days.

Love Never Fails

Scripture Reading: I Corinthians 13:13

"And now abideth faith, hope, and charity (love), these three; but the greatest of these is charity (love)" (I Corinthians 13:13).

Why do you think that love is called the greatest of the three (faith, hope, love) from I Corinthians 13:13? Let's look at some of love's attributes.

1. Love: Is not easily provoked, thinks no evil (verse 5)
2. Love: Rejoices in truth (verse 6)
3. Love: Bears, believes, hopes, and endures all things (verse 7)

Summed up in three words, Love Never Fails!

Love is a binding element. God is bound to us by His love. Husbands and wives are bound together by love. Love holds the whole thing together.

If it weren't for God's love, faith and hope wouldn't be available to us. Salvation through the shed blood of Jesus wouldn't be available.

God has given us the gift of love. It is a gift that gets bigger and better (for us) the more we give it away.

Show your love to others and, "Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly" (Colossians 3:16), the Word of love!

We Will Pray

We Will Pray - by the Heart of the City Worship Band and the Heart of the City Worship Choir

Exercise the AUTHORITY of prayer!

Scripture Reading: 1 Timothy 2:1-4

"The king's heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: He turneth it whithersoever He will." (Proverbs 21:1)

This week America will celebrate President's Day. We remember the bravery of George Washington fighting for the freedom to build a new nation. We remember Abraham Lincoln who took bold steps toward ending slavery and returning America to righteousness. Then there was Franklin Roosevelt guiding the United States through World War II, and the list goes on.

Each President throughout history is famous or infamous for many reasons. God's Word tells us, in I Timothy 2:2, that we are to pray, make intercessions and give thanks for Kings, and for all that are in authority so that we dwell in peace. Regardless of our political affiliation we are to pray for our President and the leaders of this country.

Friend, you may not be happy with the outcome of a particular election. You may not be happy with changes made as new leaders take office, but you are still to pray for those leaders. If you need any more convincing think about this: what better way is there to change things around in our government than to pray? Remember James 5:16b "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."

Uphold our leaders in prayer before the Lord every day. Let's exercise the AUTHORITY of prayer on behalf of our leaders and those in authority!

Be Faithful In Worshipping The Lord

How comfortable is the furniture in your Church?

Scripture Reading: Hebrews chapter10

Do you go to church or do you attend TV Church? There is nothing wrong with watching the many tremendous men and women of God who spread the Gospel through television. They need our financial support too because TV airtime is very expensive. However, if you only attend TV Church, you are missing out on fellowship with other believers and are not following the Word of God. Hebrews 10:25 says, "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."

TV Church for some is legitimate since it is their only way of hearing the Word. Some don't drive and have no transportation or are in poor health. These are the exception and not the rule.

When the TV broadcast is over, with whom do you fellowship? Where can you get answers to your questions? If you are in need of someone to Biblically lay hands on you and pray over you, whom will you call? If you have an emergency in the middle of the night and need the fellowship of a Pastor, whom do you call? The TV preachers would be there for you if they could, but most of them are called to a different type of ministry. The local church is where we receive the fellowship of other believers and the personalized ministry of a Pastor.

Let me encourage you to find a good Church (one that preaches the uncompromised Word of God). Get in that Church and fellowship. The seats may not be as comfortable as those at home, but fellowship will more than make up for that!

Every day I set time aside to give the Lord praise through song. It has become a lifestye that helps me to conquer the problems that come into my life daily.

When you learn to live a life of praise, it empowers you and allows the Holy Spirit to work in your situation. The power of praise is a series that I taught many years ago, and have learned that it is something we can never do without if we are to become conquerors. I hope you will make praise music a daily part of your life.
