How To Know You Have A Ghost

Updated on July 11, 2009

Do you have recurring bad smells in your house? Do noises keep you awake at night? Are you continually losing or misplacing things? Is there a room or spot in your house that is always cold? If the answer to these questions is yes, then psychics would say that you probably have a ghost in the house.

Have you suddenly begun talking in tongues? Has your personality changed almost overnight? Are you suddenly gifted at something you were hopeless at in the past?

Watch out – you could be possessed.

A local group of psychics believe that spirits are earthbound for many reasons. The most common is ignorance – the dead simply don’t know they’re dead, and wouldn’t know what to do if they did.

Many other spirits are kept on the Earth-plane by grieving relatives and loved ones.

But as there are good and bad people, there are good and bad ghosts, and the bad ones are never in a hurry to leave.

Then there is possession.

Possession, they say, usually occurs when a person is at their lowest and has all but given up on life.

The person’s soul leaves the body and another slips right in. This event is always accompanied by a change in the person’s behaviour.

The change is sometimes subtle, but is most often dramatic as the person begins to take on the personality of the entity that now resides within.

We have a unpleasant smell in a bedroom - occasionally. Log house and single board floor - no walls or floor boards for animals, dead or alive.

Has been going on for 5+ years with 2yr or more lack of smell. Is back. Have had two teenagers in that room on occasional basis. Not sure what to do?

Hi Joe - thanks for your story. As for help, the best advice I can give you is to seek the services of a medium and have your house cleaned. Good luck my friend and keep me updated.

So my girlfriend lives in a apartment in chicago and her and her mom and dad always knew they had ghost in there house because they would see a little girl running around or sitting on the couch. Her dad would be waken up for some reason and in the ceiling in the corner there would be this black mist goin around but he just ignored it and turned around. They been living there for about 10years. Recently my girlfriend been hearing things. Like couple days ago she was sleeping in the living room and was waken up by someone slapping there hand on the table next to her and noone was home. She went back to sleep and notice her bedroom light was on, woke up again and it was off. This all happen during the day. now last night she herd someone knocking from the inside her bedroom on the wall. They kept doing it over and over, she try to sleep and she said something fell right next to her bed but she looked and it was nothing. This morning she asked her mom if she herd anything last night, her mother said no but she kept waking up and just didnt understand why. My girlfriend said it doesnt feel like the little girl spirit anymore. They wasnt scared of the little girl being around they just let her be, but now she said it feels like somethin else like something scaring her. How do i find out what it is and what it wants of see if it is a bad spirit? is there somethin more to do then just ask it? i dont want to ask them what they want and give them the attention they want so they could grow stronger. what do i do?

i lived in a home that my parents still live in, in which my bedroom would randomly smell like maple syrup. very weird...examined the whole room and items in it to find the smell but could find nothing that even resembled this scent! i had other ghostly experiences in that house...never too scary, though...just minor noises and pictures of ghosts. ;) voted up!

My mother's house was hauntd by a smell of cigar smoke and once by hot paraffin. There was also a ghost cat: The other cats made way for it when sleeping.

I and my kids lived in so many homes that were haunted that when we moved into one that didn't have a ghost, I felt cheated.  One of these days, I'll write a hub (or two) about those "housemates".

But no, no smells.  No possessions. And no "noises" per se, only the one "mate" that liked to turn on the blender in the middle of the night. Not too sure about misplaced things.  With small children, one could never be sure the culprit was earthly or not.
