Power of God's Word
Years ago someone gave me a book filled with scripture that was broken down into different categories. The author had selected scripture that could be used for prayer with a variety of needs. At first it seemed some what awkward to use. However over the years I've discovered there is great power in praying the word of God. When we can take scripture and turn it into prayer our supplications avail much.
Scripture tells us that the prayers of the saints resound in the throne room of God forever. It was Moses prayer to God that altered fate for the Israelites. Being able to pray effectively empowers the believer and allows close fellowship with God. When we incorporate scripture with our prayers we are literally taking God at His word.We are reminding him of what He said, did or promised and believing He will act!
Over the years as people have asked for prayer there have been times when the hurt, heartache, or situation seemed to hit too close. I would even wonder if I could pray effectively. By using scripture I found that God had already given me words to pray I just need to know how to put them together.Keep reading below are some scriptures to try.
Praying Hands
Why do we fold our hands to pray?
Many of us fold our hands to pray out of habit or simply because that is how we were taught to pray. Believe it or not folding hands to pray or even meditate has been done for centuries. When we fold our hands we are able to focus. To pause and get into a posture of prayer that is not easily distracted.
Prayers that avail much
When praying scripture place a proper noun, name of a person, in the place of the pronoun. Below are three scriptures that I have used for over twenty years.
Ephesians 1:15-23 (Prayer for understanding and knowledge.)
After I heard of your (put in name) faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints I cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you (insert name) the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:So that the eyes of your understanding may be enlightened: that you may know what is the hope of His calling, and the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints. And that you (insert name) may know the exceeding greatness of His power to those who believe, according to the working of His might power. In Jesus Name Amen.
Ephesians 3:14-21 (Prayer for inner growth.)
For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That He would grant you (insert name)according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in your inner being. that Christ may dwell in your heart by faith; that you (insert name) being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth and height: and to know the love of Christ which passeth understanding, that you (insert name) might be filled with all the fullness of God. And Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us, unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. In Jesus name Amen.
Colossians 1:9-13 (Prayer for wisdom, spiritual growth, perseverance, strength, salvation, protection.)
For this cause since the day I heard of it ( I have inserted the day you were born as a prayer for my children) I have not ceased to pray for you (insert name) and to desire that you might be filled with the knowledge of God's will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. That you (insert name) might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, unto all patience and long suffering with joyfulness; giving thanks unto the Father, which has made you meant to be a partaker in the inheritance of the saints in light: Who has delivered you from the power of darkness and translated you into the kingdom of His dear Son.
