Louie Giglio Indescribable God and Universe

Updated on April 9, 2015

Discover An Amazing God Through Astronomy

Louie Giglio's DVD is about God and astronomy. His continuing mission is to explore new cities, states and countries. His goal is to seek out new people to accept Christ as their Savior. To boldly explore and connect God's universe with the Bible like never before!

In today's world of constant sin being thrown at teenagers, finding ways of connecting God to young adults is both challenging and competitive. But Louie discovered a way! He is now turning millions to God through his Passion Conference Events and Indescribable Tour. He has found a way to structure a presentation by combining his passion for astronomy and his love for God. In the DVD, you'll be taken on an amazing space exploration. Through visualization and music, He brings you to the realization that even though we are insignificant in space, we are extremely significant to God. What he shows you will blow your mind and leave you in awe. You will see the universe from a brand new perspective.

On this journey through space, Louie shows spectacular photos from the Hubble Telescope. These photos glorify God by capturing His magnificent, bright and colorful creations. He also compares the vast universe, planets, stars and galaxies to planet earth. You will see that we are but a speck of dust in our own hometown, The Milky Way Galaxy.

We often hear the term, "the known universe," which means we haven't built a telescope big enough to see everything God has created. Every time a bigger telescope is built, we're in absolute amazement at the new wonders lingering in space. The universe is growing faster than our technology.

The universe is bigger than we can imagine and it's growing bigger every day. Astronomers estimate that it is 156 billion light years wide (a light year is 5.87 trillion miles). Scientists say that if earth is the only inhabited planet then the universe is extremely oversized. Since God is bigger than everything in existence, maybe the universe is just the right size for His purpose and for His plan.

WHAT IF?

What if God is communicating to us through space exploration?

What if the purpose of the universe is God allowing us to see His astronomical size?

What if God is giving us a glimpse of His celestial kingdom through breathtaking images of space?

What if God wants us to see and realize that regardless of our tiny size in the universe, His love, mercy, grace and forgiveness for us is immeasurable?

Louie Giglio's Bio

Education and Experience

Louie was born on June 30, 1958 and grew up in a Christian home in Atlanta, Georgia. He attended college at Georgia State University. In 1977, his freshman year, he gave his life to Jesus Christ and walked away from the college party scene. In 1985, he earned a Master of Divinity Degree at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

After graduating, Louie and his wife led a weekly Bible study at Baylor University, in Waco, Texas that they called "Choice Ministrie.s" What started out as a small group study quickly grew, by word of mouth, to 2,000 in attendance.

In 1995, Louie ended the Bible study and headed home to help his parents in Atlanta, Georgia. His father was seriously ill and his mother was exhausted from being the caregiver. Unfortunately, his father passed away while Louie was flying home. In that same year, Louie felt led to start "Passion Conferences" for large gatherings of college students. The Passion Conferences were successful from the start with over one million students in attendance.

Louie and his wife attended North Point Community Church in Atlanta. The Pastor was Andy Stanley (Pastor Charles Stanley's Son.) In 2009, Louie started a new church in Atlanta called The Passion City Church. Louie has since then authored Christian books and created Christian CDs.

Indescribable Presentation

Space Exploration and God

Louie is naturally casual, as you can tell by his clothes, talking style, and the stage setting. Since he was addressing a younger crowd, he speaks with simple language-no big words. The background music will gently mesmerize you and draw you into the world of astronomy. Even though his modern worship and sermon style is geared towards young people, this DVD is a great learning experience and enjoyable for all ages.

It was very clear Louie's subject matter was God and astronomy. He's a very talented, entertaining and funny speaker. He presents a visually-driven, soft-spoken and Godly presentation. You don't feel preached at or that you need a Bible. He spoke in a heartfelt and engaging manner in front of a live audience (college level). He didn't make any theological arguments. He speaks from the Word of God to bring understanding and clarity to his topic, although he never actually quotes the book or verse number. (I found them all and included them in this lens.)

On a gigantic screen that fills the stage, Louie shows breathtaking pictures of God's astonishing creations, just lingering in space, waiting to be discovered. He also shares scientific facts supporting the truth of the Bible. The presentation demonstrates God's creative ability and is a life-changing experience. There are billions of galaxies in our universe. Louie helps to open our eyes to see beyond where we live and gaze in wonder at the magnificent creation of Almighty God.

FACT - If our galaxy was the size of the North American continent, then our solar system would be the size of a quarter?

Psalms 19:1-4 says, "(1) The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. (2) Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. (3) They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. (4) Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun."

The Bible and God

A Biblical Approach To Astronomy

This DVD is a must see for anyone who believes in God or not. A believer's faith might be strengthened. A non-believer may not feel the same, but may still want to know more about God's glory. Either way, this video will change the way you view the night sky.

The DVD is very informative and educational. If you love astronomy, you'll love Louie's journey through the cosmos. He also quotes scripture that relates to heaven and space. You will walk away being more knowledgeable about astronomy and its connection to the Bible and God.

Louie Giglio's message is one of hope and encouragement. He states that even though we appear to be small and insignificant, God's love for us is extremely significant. God, our Wonderful Counselor, who created it all, who can hold the entire universe in the span of His hand, knows and loves us beyond our comprehension. God who knows every star by name also knows yours, and mine. He can be trusted with our dreams, fears, hopes, pain and tears. Your heavenly Father, who suffered death so that your sins would be forgiven, is inviting you into a loving relationship with Him that will never end.

ASTRONAUT NEIL ARMSTRONG QUOTE (The first man to walk on the moon, on Apollo 11) said, "It suddenly struck me; that tiny pea, pretty and blue, was the Earth. I put up my thumb and shut one eye and my thumb blotted out planet Earth. I didn't feel like a giant. I felt very, very small."

Isaiah 40:25-26 says, "(25) To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal," says the Holy One. (26) Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing."

Let's take a journey through the universe.

Milky Way Galaxy

Were Earth Resides

The Milky Way Galaxy, where Earth resides, is measured in light years. The speed of light travels 186,000 miles per second (mps). It can circle the earth 7 times every second. Light travels an astounding 5.88 trillion miles per year. Our galaxy is over 100,000 light years long and contains billion and billions of stars and is one of hundreds of billions of galaxies in the known universe. It would take 2,500 years to count the stars in our galaxy. Our solar system, which is inside The Milky Way Galaxy, can't be seen because it is so small. We are insignificant inside our own subdivision of our galaxy.

Job 38:31 says, "Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades? Can you loosen Orion's belt?" Job eventually replies, "No."

The Pale Blue Dot (Famous Photo)

Earth Caught In A Ray of Light

The spacecraft "Voyager" launched in 1977 to take images of planets and our own solar system. In 1990, thirteen years later on Valentine's Day, Voyager is told to take one last panoramic picture of all the planets they visited.Voyager's location was 3.7 billion miles from earth, traveling 40,000 miles an hour away from the sun. It takes a series of 60 photographs because taking a panoramic shot was not available at that time.

Every image that Voyager sent to Earth consisted of 640,000 pixels. (A pixel is a tiny dot that helps make a photograph.) It took 5-1/2 hours for each pixel to appear on earth. The JPL was waiting months for one image. The green and pink bands are rays of sunlight reflecting off Voyager. This photo is famous today because Earth was captured as a tiny speck of light in the far right beam.

Isaiah 40:12 says, "Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance?"

The Sun

The Sun is 93 million miles away from Earth. Its light only takes 8 minutes to reach us. The Sun's surface is 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit. It's like billions of nuclear bombs going off every second. The Sun is 100 times the size of Earth. Scientists say it would take the gross national product of the United States 7 million years for your local power company to run the Sun for one second. The Sun, located inside The Milky Way Galaxy, has planets orbiting around it, including Earth.

John 1:3 says, "Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made."

The Constellation Pleiades

The beautiful constellation Pleiades is out 440 light years. It's all known as the Seven Sisters and Messier 45. It's located in the constellation Taurus, near Hyades and Orion. Pleiades is among the nearest star clusters to Earth and is the cluster most obvious to the naked eye in the night sky. The cluster is dominated by hot blue and extremely luminous stars that have formed within the last 100 million years.

Colossians 1:16 says, "For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him."

The Vela Pulsar

The Vela Pulsar is out 1,000 light years. It's a neutron star that was formed when a massive star collapsed. This is a highly magnetized neutron star. The center of it is oscillating 11 times a second. It's estimated to survive for another 250 million years.

Philippians 2:6-8 say, “(6) Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; (7) rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. (8) And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross!”

The Helix Nebula (The Hourglass Nebula)

The Hourglass Nebula is out 8,000 light years. It is a dying star emitting tons of gases cooling and creating beautiful images. The formation of the inner eye is not understood. The Helix Nebula has sometimes been referred to as the "Eye of God" in pop culture.

Psalm 103:8-12 says, “(8) The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. (9) He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; (10) he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. (11) For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; (12) as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.”

The Sombrero Galaxy

The Sombrero Galaxy is out 28 million light years. It's 50,000 light years wide and trillions of miles thick. The galaxy is in the constellation Virgo in the Northern Hemisphere which you can see in the southern skies. It has 2,000 globular clusters, compact groups of 100,000 to a million stars. This galaxy has a dark dust lane and bulge that gives the galaxy the appearance of a sombrero. The large bulge in the middle is actually a supermassive black hole, which helps the scientist's theory that it is an unbarred spiral galaxy.

Revelation 13:8 says, "All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast, all whose names have not been written in the Lamb's book of life, the Lamb who was slain from the creation of the world."

The Whirlpool Galaxy

The Whirlpool Galaxy is out 31 million light years away. This galaxy is called "The Darling of Astronomy." It sits in space facing Earth. It is also called "A Grand Design Galaxy." It is made up of hundreds of billions of stars. Some scientists say 300 to 500 billion stars. It's called Whirlpool because it looks like it could suck you in. The pink area of The Whirlpool Galaxy are ferocious star forming incubators. Scientists say every a new star is born every day in the universe. Stars as big as our Sun and bigger are being put into place.

John 15:9 says, "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love."

"X" Structure At Core of Whirlpool Galaxy (M51)

Symbolic of Jesus Christ

Found inside The Whirlpool Galaxy was the X Structure. It's 1,100 light years wide. A striking, dark "X" silhouetted across the galaxy's nucleus. The "X" is due to absorption by dust. The"X" marks the exact position of a black hole which may have a mass equivalent to one-million stars like the sun.

Psalm 8:3-4 says. “(3) When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, (4) what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?

Conclusion

Louie Giglio is an incredible teacher. Giglio focuses his teachings towards the younger generation but this DVD is great for any age group. He does an amazing job describing the universe and showing its amazing beauty through photography and music. Giglio shows us just how incredibly small we are compared to our Lord and Savior. I hope you thoroughly enjoy this DVD.
