Wisdom is the Principle Thing

I have always wanted to be one of those persons who was considered as "wise". I think that it would just sound good to hear someone say, "There goes a very wise woman". I haven't heard anyone say that about me yet, but I am still hoping that one day I will.

The Bible says that "wisdom is the principle thing, therefore, get wisdom" [Proverbs 4:7]. It seems to me that anyone can get wisdom, it is just a matter of finding out where it is and going there to retrieve it.

I have looked in all kinds of places and asked all kinds of folks, both young and old. I have found some good information and I have found out a lot about what not to do. (Some stuff folks pass off as wisdom is really crazy! How can something that could potentially send you to jail be considered wise???)

Finally, I realize that the source of wisdom is the Lord God Almighty. Wisdom begins with the reverential fear of God. It grows by slowing down and acknowledging that all things and all attempts toward success are futile and empty unless you've been with the Lord.

Unless I was willing to submit to Him, to adopt His ways of speaking, His ways of thinking, His ways of action...unless I was willing to do these things, I would never know the kind of wisdom that I dream about. The challenge is that His ways are so contrary to the way my mind and body want to go, they are so different, exactly opposite; but that is what makes Him God.

So, if I want what I want, I have to make a decision. I have been assured from His Word, that He will lead me, He will guide me. The plan and direction is clear. I need not search any further; I must now decide. Decide to be wise or continue being foolish.....and, because I have first hand experience with being foolish and the problems that it brings, I think that I will gather my restraints and choose to be wise. I hope that you will do the same.
