THE POWER OF SATAN
The power of the devil is nowhere compared to that of the almighty Lord God who created the angels before He created the world. Lucifer because of his beauty rebelled against God and was cast out of heaven. However, the devil has power to rule over humanity and also can perform wonders and signs, but he is confined and restrained by God.
God allowed Satan to lure Job into submission, but he could not take Job's life. Hence, Satan's power is limited.
According to United States Census Bureau as of July 1, 2011, there are 6.94 billion people in the world. Christians count for one third of the population and two thirds consist of Muslims, Buddhists, and Hindus.
Satan holds sway over two thirds of the population. From this point of view, we can say Satan has power.

A. The Devil Rules over Humanity
Very important to visit the website of Hand Signs 1: Signs of Satan. Leaders of the World make the Signs of Satan. The pictures portray who inevitably the leaders are. They cannot refute the allegations for the pictures show clearly the evidence. Are they in the sway of the devil?
1. John 8:34
- Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
2a. 1 John 5:19
- And we know that the Son of God is come, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.
b. Acts 26:18
- To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith this is in me.
3a. Rom 7:15-24
- Man by his own means cannot deliver himself from Satan. For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do (19).
b. Mark 5:2-4
- And no man could bind him, no, not with chains (3).
4.1 John 5:18
- We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself and that wicked one toucheth him not.
B. The Devil can Perform Wonders and Signs
The sorcerers were able to change the rod into a snake, the water into blood and made fire come down from heaven.
1a. Exodus 7:10-12
- Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers: now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments.
b. Exodus 7:20-22
- And Moses and Aaron did so, ... and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood... And the magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments:
2. Matthew 24:23-24
- For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
3. 2 Thessalonians 2:9-11
- Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders.
4. Revelation 13:12-13
- And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men.
5. Exodus 8:16-19
- And the Lord said Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch out thy rod, and smite the dust of the land, that it may become lice throughout all the land of Egypt... And the Egyptians did so with their enchangments to bring forth lice, but they could not:
The power of Satan is far inferior to that of God who has no limitations. God is omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent.
C. Satan is Permitted to Afflict the Righteous
Job, a righteous man was afflicted with sores from head to foot for God allowed Satan to afflict him, but not take his life.
1a. Job 1:12
- And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power: only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord.
b. Job 2:6
- And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand: but save his life.
D. Blinds the Minds of Unbelievers
Satan can blind the minds of unbelievers so they can see but not observe. They can hear what was said, but cannot comprehend. It is a sad situation for their eyes are open, but cannot make out what they see.
2 Co 4:3-4
- But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost.
- In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God should shine unto them.
E. Claims Authority over the World
Like good salesmen who claim great value of the things they sell, but in reality, it is not what it appears to be. It falls short of reality.
Luke 4:6
- And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will, I give it.
F. Contends with the Saints
Ephesians 6:12
- For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
G. Inspires Lying Wonders
Like the sorcerers at the time of Moses, they can change the rod into a snake and turn the water into blood, many believers are awed by the spectacle. They act like superman and many fall for their deception. Their balloons have not yet burst.
2 Thes 2:9; He 2:14
- Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders.
H. Persistence in luring Prey
We can see from Balaam in the Old Testament how many times they appeared unto Balaam and how many times Balaam rejected their promises. Balak first message was rejected (Numbers 22:13). Subsequently, in verse 15, Balak promised him more rewards, and he hesitated, but the mention of rewards lured him. The man of God had fallen.
Numbers 22:13
First Refusal
- Get you into your land: for the Lord refuseth to give me leave to go with you.
Numbers 22:15
- And Balak sent yet again princes, more, and more honourable than they.
Revelation 2:14
- But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.
The power of Satan is limited for a certain period of time to tempt, lure, lie, perform certain miracles, incites, and provoke people to rebellion against the Lord God. When Jesus came to earth with wondrous miracles, everlasting love, forgiveness and teaching righteousness, faith and forbearance, He gave the world the Holy Spirit of God to dwell in the hearts of men and many responded to the calling of God. Man was free to choose the path of righteousness as opposed to that of death.
The spell of impending death was broken when Jesus gave Himself to die on our behalf and rescued us from everlasting fire and doom. Praise the Lord God for extending His gracious hands to snatch us from headlong path to Hell. Praise the Lord God.
