How can you be sure that Christianity is the only true religion in the world

Updated on April 23, 2008

The Lord Jesus Christ is the One and Only Savior of Mankind

Comments with Questions on whether or not Christianity is the Only True Religion

Following the publication of "The False Gospel of Oprah and Obama" another Hubber wrote his comments and questioned the credibility of Christianity. In this Hub Page I shall answer his questions point by point.

Here are his comments:

The funny thing about these "only way" beliefs is telling which is correct. How can you be sure that yours is the right one? Sure, you've got a book, but the only "proof" of that book comes from the book itself. If it is the book that is in question...

Beyond that, if Christianity is about love, why all the hate? If it is about peace, why all the fear? If it is about truth, why all the lies? If God loves you, why has he damned you from birth, even though his Son supposedly paid for your sins long ago? If God is all, why the jelousy? Why does a God who wants only good things for you insist that you fear him?

Every time I've come across a false religion, it is unfailingly the one that condemns that ends up being the false one. Consider "God is Love" against the fear, pain, turmoil, and anger that make up the "path" of Christianity today. By your own words, God is, at best, an abusive lover. More likely, it is your Satan, literally using scripture to consume you.

Either way, whether Dark Lord or Devil - do you really want to spend eternity with the entity the Bible calls God? Just some food for thought - for those who are still capable.

Questions and Answers on Christianity being the True Religion

Question: The funny thing about these "only way" beliefs is telling which is correct. How can you be sure that yours is the right one?

Answer: In the world there are many religions such as Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, etc. Even Atheism, a disbelief in the existence of God, is a form of religion. Christians claim theirs is the only way to heaven and this is how they can be sure theirs is the right one.

True Christianity, the Christianity of the New Testament in the Holy Bible, is absolutely dependent on history. At the heart of the New Testament faith is the assertion that "God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself." (2 Cor. 5:19). The incarnation which is God's manifestation in the flesh, death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ are real events in time and space. These events are recorded by real people who are eye witnesses. There are over 500 witnesses who have seen the resurrected Christ (1 Cor. 15:5-6). There are at least 120 disciples of Christ who have witnessed the Lord Jesus Christ ascended into heaven (Acts 1:9-15).

Just consider these five events of the Lord Jesus Christ - His virgin birth, sacrificial death on the Cross, burial in the Tomb, resurrection and ascension into heaven. Since the beginning of human history there is not a single person on earth besides the Lord Jesus Christ that has ever experienced these events that are attested by witnesses and recorded in a single document anywhere.

Study and examine the history of the founders of other major religions such as Judaism, Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism; and you will find that every one of them died and their bodies rotted and turned into dust. Islam claims that Mohammed ascended to heaven from the Rock of the Dome in Jerusalem. There is not a single eyewitness to this event therefore it can only be considered a myth at best. There is no claim that Krishna (Hinduism) and Buddha (Buddhism) ever died, resurrected and ascended to heaven.

The Lord Jesus Christ said: "I and My Father are one." (John 10:30) He also said: "He who has seen Me has seen the Father." (John 14:9) By these statements Jesus has proclaimed Himself to be God. There are only two possibilities for Jesus to make such a claim. Either it is true or false. if it is true then Christianity is the only true religion in the world. If it is false then Jesus is either a lunatic or a liar, in which case only fools would ever believe in Him.

After His death, buial and resurrection Jesus appeared to His disciples. When Thomas touched the wounds of His resurrected body and hands he called Jesus, "My Lord and my God!" (John 20:26-29). "And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted His hands and blessed them. Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that he was parted from them and carried up into heaven. And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. Amen." (Luke 24:50-53)

Christianity began with about 120 disciples who witnessed the death, burial, resurrection and ascension of the Lord Jesus Christ. This religion has not only survived for more than 2,000 years but has also flourished and today it is the only religion that is accepted by believers all over the world.

I am absolutely 100% sure that Christianity is the one and only true religion in the world, and the Lord Jesus Christ is the One and Only Savior of mankind.

The Holy Bible is the Word of God and it is completely reliable as a Guide for Mankind

Question: Sure, you've got a book, but the only "proof" of that book comes from the book itself. If it is the book that is in question...

Answer: The Holy Bible is not just any book. It is the Word of God. It is written over about a span of 1,500 years by more than 40 men who were chosen by God. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew and the New Testament written in Greek. The amazing thing about the Bible is that although it is written by different people in different epochs of time, yet all of them agree on only one central theme, and that is God's redemption of mankind by His coming into the world in the form of flesh as His Son Jesus Christ.

The Holy Bible has the Old Testament that is accepted by the three great religions - Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The New Testament which has 27 authoritative books has been fully supported by the Early Church Fathers for their accuracy. True Christians hold the doctrinal position that in its original form, the Bible is totally without error, and free from known contradiction; "referring to the complete accuracy of Scripture, including the historical and scientific parts."

Christianity is not a blind faith. It is the only religion that can prove itself, and a main source of that proof is the Bible. One of the strongest arguments for the accuracy of the Bible is its 100% accuracy in predicting the future. These future predictions are called "prophecies." The Old Testament was written between approximately 1450 BC and 430 BC. During that time, many predictions of the future were recorded in the Bible by God's prophets. Of the events that were to have taken place by now, every one happened just the way they predicted it would. No other "sacred writing" has such perfectly accurate predictions of the future.

The Old Testament contains numerous prophecies written over 2,500 years ago. Every one of these prophecies was fulfilled in the life of Jesus of Nazareth approximately 2,000 years ago. Let us just take a few of these prophecies and see how they were fulfilled.

1. The Messiah will be born in Bethlehem.

Old Testament Prophecy: "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting." (Micah 5:2)

New Testament Fulfillment: "Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem," (Matthew 2:1)

2. The Messiah will be a descendant of Judah.

Old Testament Prophecy: "The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes; And to Him shall be the obedience of the people." (Genesis 49:10)

New Testament Fulfillment: Luke 3:23-38 and Matthew 1:1-17 confirm that Jesus is a descendant of Judah.

3. The Messiah will be a descendant of David.

Old Testament Prophecy: "Behold, the days are coming," says the LORD, "That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign and prosper, And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth." (Jeremiah 23:5)

New Testament Fulfillment: "He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end." (Luke 1:32-33)

4. The Messiah will be born of a virgin.

Old Testament Prophecy: "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel." (Isaiah 7:14)

New Testament Fulfillment: 18 "Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. 20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins." 22 So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: 23 "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us." (Matthew 1:18-23)

5. The Messiah will be the Son of God.

Old Testament Prophecy: "I will declare the decree: The LORD has said to Me, "You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession." (Psalm 2:7-8)

New Testament Fulfillment: "And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." (Matthew 3:17)

The first four books in the New Testament, called the Four Gospels, are historical and biographical accounts of the life of the Lord Jesus Christ. The first three books that are written by Matthew, Mark and Luke are called Synoptic Gospels because they record similar events. The fourth book by John places emphasis on the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. The fact of the matter is that over 90% of the original text has been recovered and more than half of all the verses in the Gospels agree with each other.

There are several early Non-Christian confirmation of New Testament history. In the First Century the Roman historian Tacitus wrote about the Roman Emperor Nero blaming the Christians for starting the fire in Rome. Another Roman historian Suetonius wrote: "Punishment was inflicted on the Christians, a body of people addicted to a novel and mischievous superstition." (Suetonius, Life of Nero, 16). Josephus (c.A.D. 37 - c.A.D. 100) wrote two major works - Jewish Wars and Antiquities of the Jews. In his books there are many statements that verify, either generally or in specific detail, the historical nature of both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible.

Conflicts of Character, Behavior and Emotion in Christianity is due to Two Opposing Forces battling for each Person's Soul

Question: Beyond that, if Christianity is about love, why all the hate? If it is about peace, why all the fear? If it is about truth, why all the lies?

Answer: There are two opposing forces battling for the soul of each individual person on earth. God is good and Satan is evil. True Christianity is the One True God in the Lord Jesus Christ who comes to save us from sin and He will return to take the saved ones to heaven . The world religions are controlled by Satan and he is here to deceive people and destroy their souls so that they are condemned to hell.

Love and Hatred True Christianity teaches the love of God and not hatred. "And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him." (1 Jn. 4:16) Jesus taught us: "You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you." (Mt. 5:43-44)

Peace and Fear Jesus said, "These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." (Jn. 16:33) The peace that Christians receive is the true inner peace that comes from God through prayer (Phil. 4:6-7).

There are two kinds of fear described in the Bible. One is a natural emotional response to a perceived threat to one's security or general welfare. After Adam and Eve disobeyed God they feared for His retribution (Gen. 3:10). The second type of fear is an attitude of respect and submission like one's proper response to someone in authority; a child to parents (Lev. 19:3), citizens to their leaders (Josh. 4:14), tax payers to the government revenue service (Rom. 13:7).

Truth and Lies The Bible states: ". .Let God be true but every man a liar." (Rom. 3:l4) ". . . grace and truth came through Jesus Christ." (Jn. 1:17) "Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (Jn. 14:6)

Jesus said, "You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it." (Jn. 8:44)

Truth comes from God and lies come from the devil.

The Lord Jesus Christ is the Only Savior of Mankind because He is without Sin

Question: If God loves you, why has he damned you from birth, even though his Son supposedly paid for your sins long ago?

Answer: All mankind is condemned because of the original sin that Adam and Eve had committed. "Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all man, because all sinned." (Rom. 5:12) God spoke to Joseph about the immaculate conception in Mary's womb, ". . . for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins." (Mt. 1:20-23)

Jesus did not have a human father therefore He did not inherit the original sin from Adam. Mary did not have sex with any man. "Then Mary said to the angel, ‘How can this be, since I do not know a man?' And the angel answered and said to her, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God." (Lk. 1:34-35) Throughout the history of mankind Jesus Christ is only Person who is born of a virgin, and that makes Him the only sinless Person who ever lived. This also makes the Lord Jesus Christ the only Savior of mankind. Because Jesus has no sin He alone can be the perfect sacrifice for our sins. "For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." (2 Cor. 5:21)

Although the Lord Jesus Christ had paid the price for sins more than 2,000 years ago yet His sacrifice for sins is still effective today. "For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified." (Heb. 10:14)

God's salvation is available to every person on earth but it must be received by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name." (Jn. 1:12) "For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ." (Gal. 3:26-27) Repentance and baptism in the name of Jesus Christ is for the remission of sins and receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts. 2:38-39).

Oprah Winfrey and Barack Obama are both completely wrong in their teaching that anyone can become children of God without repentance, believing and baptism into the Lord Jesus Christ.

The True Meaning and Significance of a "Jealous God"

Question:If God is all, why the jelousy? Why does a God who wants only good things for you insist that you fear him?

Answer: The Second Commandment states: "You shall not make for yourself any carved image, or any likeness of anything . . . . you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments." (Ex. 20:4-6).

This commandment is given by God to His people who have a husband and wife relationship with Him. In the Old Testament time God considers Israel as His wife (Jer. 3:14) In the New Testament time the Church is the Bride of Christ (Eph. 5:331-32; Rev. 19:7-8) God is jealous for His people in the same sense that a loving husband is jealous of other men who want to have romantic affairs with his wife. Remember that in the marriage ceremony both the bride and groom make promises to be faithful to each other.

God's jealousy signifies His intolerance of rivalry or unfaithfulness of His people towards other gods (Ex. 20:5; 34:14; Deut. 4:24; 5:9).

God's jealousy is a good and positive sign that He still loves us very much and wants us to belong to Him exclusively. God's jealousy makes us love Him all the more, determined to be faithful to Him and not serve other gods.

Always think about the Goodness of God and Good things will Come to You

Question: Every time I've come across a false religion, it is unfailingly the one that condemns that ends up being the false one. Consider "God is Love" against the fear, pain, turmoil, and anger that make up the "path" of Christianity today. By your own words, God is, at best, an abusive lover. More likely, it is your Satan, literally using scripture to consume you.

Answer: Do not have any negative thoughts about Christianity. Here is God's plan for your life.

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. (Jer. 29:11-13)

Question: Either way, whether Dark Lord or Devil - do you really want to spend eternity with the entity the Bible calls God? Just some food for thought - for those who are still capable.

Answer: Heaven is real and you want to go there.
