What's Important to God

Updated on March 5, 2020

I am a mother of three wonderful adult children, and I'm also a born-again Christian. I love to share my personal experiences.

What God wants

Well it is coming close to that time of the year again. "You're probably thinking what time of the year are you talking about Lorraine?" For most it is a celebration; a day of thanksgiving as it should be. But for me it is kind of sad. My birthday, yes my birthday. I don't know why but it should be one of the happiest days of my life. After all God has given me in my life, he has also allowed me to be here to celebrate yet another year on this planet.

Then why do I seem to always feel so sad? Some will tease and say it is because you are getting old, or you are old. What I would say is thank God that I still look good and surely don't act my age. Hehee. So why am I still sad?

Two of my three children are still here with me, I met a really nice man whom I loved and was my boyfriend then turned husband. I still have my brother and sisters, nieces and nephews, true friends that are genuine, etc. But yet there still seems to be something missing. There are also people who have died, and some who just went in another direction, but they are still missed in one of the most important days of my life, my birthday.

If I am sad can you imagine how God feels when we aren't there for the most important day of His life? Meaning everyday that we don't even acknowledge Him. Or the times that we forgot to thank Him and remember how special He really is to us, and yet we rarely bother to tell Him? And we flat out forget what's important to God?

Maybe we should ask our self - who is God?

We will let the bible tells us who God is and when we see God for whom He is then maybe we will understand what really is important to God.

(Exodus 34:5-7

5) Then the Lord came down in the cloud and stood there with him and proclaimed his name, the Lord.

6) And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, The Lord, The Lord the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness,

7) maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin.

2) Samuel 22:32-34

32) For whom is God besides the Lord? And who is the Rock except our God?

33) It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect.

34) He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he enables me to stand on the heights.

So according to God's word we know that he is compassionate, full of grace, slow to anger, abounding in love, faithful, and giving to many as well as forgiving. Who is God to us? He is our Rock, our strength. He makes our way perfect so obviously He guides us and He enables us to go above and beyond any circumstance.

Deuteronomy 10:17

For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God , mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes.

So we know God doesn't show favor - by being unfair

Neither does He accept dishonesty by a man we may trust, trying to influence a person's views or conduct. So God is fair and honest. These are such limited things that we know about whom God is, I probably would not be able to contain who He is in a book. But just to give you an idea of who He is I am using a couple of examples out of the word of God to show you Who He is. Since we have a small portion of who He is then, What's Important to God? And what does He want from us?

I. God Wants Our Acknowledgement:

Colossians 3:2,

"Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth."

Psalms 46:

Be still and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

There are many who refuse to acknowledge God even exists, they may deny His existence now, but God declares that one day every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord!

Who Is God - I have Shared with you Biblical truth to the character of who God is.

Here in these reading materials this may shed some light also to who God is.

Put God - always first

II. God Wants Our Allegiance

"Seek ye first the kingdom of God,.."

Colossians 3:2

Set your affection on the things above, not on the things on the earth.

Take the time

To know God

III. God Wants Our Availability

Often we mistakenly get the impression that God couldn't get along without us. The Lord wants to use us, but He can also use someone else if we aren't willing. God wants us to be obedient to Him so that He might use us in His service. Paul had to be willing to be obedient to God before God could use him in such a mighty way.

What's Important to God?

He wants us to acknowledge Him, have you done that? Do you know Him as your Lord and Savior today? If you have, then He wants your allegiance. No more casual Christianity, no more superficial commitments. He wants us to take a stand for Him and let it be known; He wants our service, and willing obedience to His Word is what the Lord delights in. Paul said, "Lord, what wilt thou have me do?" Will you honestly ask this of the Lord today? Will you be willing to do whatever He might answer?

Prayer

Father, we thank You that we are guided, not in our own strength or wisdom, but in the knowledge and wisdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is not by might, nor by power, but by Your Spirit that we can stand against the tactics of the enemy, as we build our foundation of faith, one brick at a time. Like Nehemiah, may our first impulse be that that of prayer and our second impulse be that of obedience. May we do What's Important to You.

In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

Love Lorraine

Are you just passing by? Or are you actually taking the time to read this? It would be nice to hear from you even if it is just saying hi, or perhaps add who you are and where you are from, or even share a lens or two. :)
