2015 Worlds: Short program

Updated on September 27, 2015

Liza Tuktamysheva in 2015

This is a time of figure skating deformity.

The ISU's love affairs with Russian skating seems unending. Now the ISU presents Liza for its flag bearer. So, let us find out whether or not Liza could be a legitimate winner in short program of the 2015 Worlds as the ISU claimed.

Liza's skating is in fact a very peculiar one. Liza seems to well utilize her speed before she attempts the first jump. But for only a short moment. She seems to have developed her own way of landing, cutting the momentum short only to secure stability and consistency. But that's all. Except that moment, Liza's speed is worst among her competitors. Her edge skill is also the worst among her peers.

Liza does Biellemann spin. Considering her stocky stature that's admirable, but at the same time, it's even mysterious to witness how the Biellemann spin in her skating never radiates its due beauty. Why?

As I constantly pointed, all her elements are neither connected nor incorporated into her momentum. But Liza lacks of more than that. Her body, as often noted in hunched posture, testifies she never learned figure skating language properly.

Her jumps are here -1,0, and +1.( while her first jump is good, second one negates). Her PCS is 6.75.

On the other hand, Radionova skates better than Liza but her physiological disadvantage holds her back. Her jumps are -2,-2 and -2. Her PCS is 6.5.

Satoko's skating is a miniature one. Though her moves appear mature considering her tiny stature, her moves lack of power and are not in complete forms.

Her jumps are 0,-1 and 0. Her PCS is 6.75.

Gracie Gold! Her jumps are -3,-2, and -1. Her PCS is 7.0.

Gracie moves smoothly but her jumps are screwed here.

Polina Edmunds appears best among her compatriots. Her moves speak the music. Her jumps are 0,-2, and 0. I think her second jump is at wrong edge. Her PCS is 7.5.

Ashley Wagner puts out a rough skating, especially in jump execution. Her jumps are -3,-2 and -2. I think her last jump is two footed. Her PCS is 7.5.

Murakami Kanako in 2015

Rika Hongo's jumps are 0,+1 and 0. Her PCS is 7.25.

Hongo appears lacking of power, and her speed is also compromised a little.

Kanako Murakami is impressive here. Her jumps are +2,-1 and +1. I graded +1 for her first jump but in this competition, it's good enough for +2.

Her flow and speed seem adequate. Especially you can tell how she use her whole body despite her moves are a bit desired.

Her PCS is 7.5.

Anna Pogorilaya too has a rough day. Poor Anna! Her fall appears very bad. I wonder how she has recovered. Anna had a hard fall but she fought. A brave girl!

Her jumps are 0,-3, and -1. Her first jump in the combination appears good but its additional jump ruins the flow.

Finally Li, her jumps -2,0, and +1. She has a god standing spin. She is in dire need of power and accuracy for almost all elements. But considering her competitors, her overall performance is good.

Her PCS is 6.75.
