A Jet Propelled Kayak Called Mokai
It's a jet propelled, motorized, kayak for one. It zips along at a fast 21 mph on water using the same motor type as a jet ski. The 7 hp Subaru jet motor can easily navigate the shallow water of rivers. While this is amazing in itself, it fits in the back of most SUV's. Yes, no car rack needed!
The Mokai is modular and comes in three sections that are put together. The center piece is just 6 ft. 5 in., while the rear and front sections can be stored within it. OMG, this is soooo cool. So functional. When the kayak is fully assembled (usually within 10-15 min) it weighs in at 195 lbs. It is about 11 ft. long. Note, the 6.5 sections is a heavy lift at 165 lbs.
The driver uses a joystick for steer and throttle the craft. The rear of the kayak contains the fuel tank and engine. The fuel tank holds just 2.6 gallons and can run for 28 hours at idle speeds between refueling. When using half throttle, the fuel can last up to 10 hrs.
The Mokai is made in Newburg, NY. It is available to be shipped to most states. New, these kayaks run around $4800 + $350+ shipping. I have seen a few on Ebay selling for less, however.
Like any kayak, the body is solid. The downside is that many buy a kayak for upper torso exercise, run rapids, and it is much slower than a jet ski. That said, they are a bit cheaper. In any case, they are cool.
