Novak Djokovic retains his position as being number 1 with an impressive 5 sets win over Rafael Nadal at Rod Laver Arena in the final of the 2012 Australian Open tournament. The final match result being 5-7 6-4 6-2 6-7 (5/7) 7-5.
Djokovic rates this win as being the best in his career against the current world number 2. The emphatic win certainly didn't come easy with the match lasting a total of 5 hours and 53 minutes with both players showing signs of fatigue midway through the match. Although Nadal looked to be in control for much of the final set, Djokovic proved why he's the world number 1 by winning the crucial points of the match to see him come away with the win.
Victoria Azarenka has moved into the number one ranking in the women's division after an impressive 6-3, 6-0 win over Maria Sharapova in the women's final of the 2012 Australian Open in Melbourne. Azarenka dominated the match with only 12 unforced errors in comparison to 30 unforced errors by Sharapova. Sharapova failed to shine by only converting 1 out of 4 break points in her favour.
