Azahara’s impressive golfing ability became clear at an early age. At just 14 years of age, the Spanish-born Munoz captured her country's Amateur Championship in 2004. She attended Arizona State University, and in 2008 (in her junior year) she became the NCAA Individual Champion. Munoz helped spearhead ASU to a team title the next season. Azahara also seized the match play British Women's Amateur in her last event as a non-professional in 2009.
Azahara’s pro career started with a impressively, as she was victorious in her first professional event, as she took home first place in the Madrid Women's Masters in 2009, winning the tournament in a sudden-death playoff. In her first year on the LPGA circuit, Azahara made all but four of the cuts (21 tournaments total), ended up 30th on the earning rankings, and won the Rookie of the Year award by a large margin.
Azahara currently plays on both the American and European circuits, with her main attention centered on the LPGA tour.

Azahara is the sole holder of two E. Cummings Munson Awards, bestowed to a top women's college golfer who additionally excels in the classroom.
With a psychology degree in hand, Azahara graduated magna cum laude in 2009. She also obtained a minor in business from ASU.
